Younger Residents Trend
The Cape Coral-Fort Myers metropolitan is ranked among the top 10 areas in the country by growth of their under-45 populations.
A Brookings report identifies Florida as one of only 11 states with a 5% or greater increase in their under-45 populations in the past decade.
21% of Florida's population is under 19. That's a lower percentage than in most states, but it stands for about 4 million young people.
Those numbers are significant because of Florida's size - a 5% increase in a big state like ours represents a lot of people.

Cape Coral one
of Florida's
Safest Cities
The FBI's 2011 National Crime report released this month shows Cape Coral is one of the safest cities in Florida as well as the whole nation.
The statistic covers cities with populations greater than 150,000 residents.
When it comes to violent crime, Cape Coral is the safest city in Florida and ranked third overall statewide for overall lowest crimes.
Cape Coral police chief Jay Murphy said, "Again our success in this area is attributable to staff efforts and our citizens' willingness to come forward and cooperate when called upon." |

Message From Your EDO Director
Getting the Word Out
The EDO office has been "on a roll" to market Cape Coral as a business destination and a great place to live and work.
Our marketing firm HD PR Group has donated time to our efforts and we've been producing loads of new materials, such as our billboard ads and our new Retail Location Guide. This guide, which promotes major retail sites for development and retail destination projects here in the Cape, has received very positive feedback at the recent trade shows staff attended.
We've also taken advantage of offers from Visit Florida to place ads and commercials up in Canada where a great many of our residents and visitors come from. A lot of planning and coordination with several business leaders went into a video shoot for the Today in America show, hosted by Terry Bradshaw, which will be televised nationally and several more times regionally in the Northeast and Midwest markets. The final 5 minute video will show the benefits of living and operating a business here in Cape Coral and I hope that you caught the 30 sec preview that we presented at the Catch the Vision event this week.
These are just a few of the efforts we are undertaking to spread the word that Cape Coral is a natural fit for work and play. We will continue to work hard on marketing and businesses recruitment to create new jobs for our residents and improve our commercial tax base. Keep checking our website www.bizcapecoral.com and reading our newsletter to see what we're up to next!
Sincerely,
Dana Brunett

Shop On Small Business Saturday
This year's Small Business Saturday will be on November 24.
Three years ago, American Express started Small Business Saturday (SBS) as a response to small businesses' pressing need to attract more customers into their shops and stores to juxtaposition Black Friday. Last year, over one hundred million people celebrated Shop SmallŪ in their communities on Small Business Saturday as a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide.
"American consumers have a deep trust in the small business community. Small Business Saturday gives them a chance to show their appreciation - and help America's essential job creators in a very real way - by patronizing small shops, restaurants and service providers," said Dan Danner, CEO of the National Federation of Independent Business.
The small business community is taking ownership of the day and making it their own and many businesses plan to offer some kind of discount on November 24 to drive sales. To help small businesses promote SBS, American Express offers a free online toolkit that includes logos, signage and other downloadable marketing materials businesses can use. Check it out at www.ShopSmall.com. |

Fucillo Kia -
HUGE Success Promoting Others
| |
Click on image to start slide show |
Perhaps one of the most recognized local business successes is the Fuccillo Kia Dealership located on Pine Island Road. The grand opening ribbon cutting was less than two years ago, yet owner Billy Fuccillo and his 100 Cape Coral employees have already established the dealership as the #1 in Kia car sales nationwide.
The City is especially pleased to have Fucillo Kia as a community partner in light of the many ways that Fucillo chooses to give back. Notably, "Mr. Huge" has sought to simultaneously promote other businesses, people and worthwhile causes under the Fuccillo marketing umbrella. For example, raffle tickets purchased for the latest KIA giveaway will raise funds for Easter Seals.
The list of partnerships reaches well beyond these and includes many more local restaurants, retail and other businesses and organizations throughout the city. This community outreach is one of the reasons that Billy Fucillo was recognized with an Economic Development Award and proclamation from the Cape Coral Council and Mayor John Sullivan at the dealership's second anniversary celebration in September.
This type of synergistic help and promotion of other businesses is good for our community and the economy. As the saying goes a "high tide raises all ships" and thus it is good citizenship as well good business to promote the wellbeing of others in the marketplace.
For more information on the current Easter Seals campaign and the Kia Car raffle, visit CapeCoral.com or a local Century 21 Sunbelt realty office.

Closing Out the Business Year
As the end of fiscal year 2012 quickly approaches, there are several year-end tasks business owners and their accounting staff should be considering. Are the financials and records prepared for filing annual tax returns? How organized are the hard copy and electronic income and expense files? Will the business need financing or re-financing?
Owners should make an appointment with their CPA to review year-to-date financial statements to assess tax liabilities due for 2012. During this visit with the CPA, be prepared to bring in a list of new assets purchased for the year so they can factor in depreciation deductions for your 2012 tax return.
Lastly, reduce stress and take time now rather than later to set up the company files for 2013 to ensure smooth sailing when it comes time to file your 2013 documents.
When asking how prepared is your business for the upcoming tax season as well as where to go for tax assistance resources, consider making an appointment with the SBDC to assist you with these and many other business necessities. The SBDC offers no cost, confidential consulting services, such as creating a business plan, finding financing resources, locating tax assistance, QuickBooks support, and organizational help.
Call today and end the business year organized and prepared for the next level of success in 2013. Email SBDC Cape Coral contact Amanda Stirn or call her at 239.573.2737. |

Local Veterans Remembered
During the Holidays
On Saturday, December 15th, 2012, members of the boating community will gather to honor veterans lost or buried at sea as part of the annual Wreaths Across America Day. It is projected that over 400,000 wreaths will be placed simultaneously nationwide at over 750 participating locations all across the country.
The Wreaths Across America organization designated Cape Coral the title of the nation's "First Floating Location". Captain Pat McCarn of Rainbow Memorials At Sea has volunteered since 2009 to conduct the Wreath Across America (WAA) ceremony, Operation: Tribute at Sea.
Specially designated biodegradable wreaths will be placed during a ceremony at sea to honor and remember soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines. Seven ceremonial wreaths will be onboard Capt. Pat's vessel and escorted down the Caloosahatchee River with the final destination in the Gulf of Mexico.
Capt. Pat's vessel will start at 9:00 am at the Veterans Memorial Bridge on the Caloosahatchee River and stop at the Cape Coral Yacht Club to pick up elected officials. The public is invited to the Yacht Club at 9:30, to show their support of our fallen heroes.
Wreath sponsorships are still available up until November 26th. If you would like to sponsor a wreath, or would like more information about how you can participate on land or at sea, please call Captain Pat McCarn at 239-673-8749.
