5th Grade Enjoys Westminster Woods Outdoor Education Trip

Our 5th grade class spent several days exploring the area of Westminster Woods last week including a 2.5 mile hike to the top of the mountain ridge (great view!).  The class took several other hikes, explored the creek and the surrounding geology and braved the ropes challenge course as well.
Middle School Students Gearing Up for 30 Hour Famine

This year's 30 Hour Famine is being led by 8th graders Natalie Gulrajani and Hannah Porter, supervised by Mrs. Walthard.  Over 25 middle school students have committed to going without food for 30 hours to help stamp out world hunger.  The famine will be held on April 25th and 26th.  In addition to an overnight at school, learning about poverty in South America, and abstaining from food for 30 hours, the students will also be conducting community service at the Redwood Gospel Mission in Santa Rosa!

This is always an impactful event for our youth and a great way for our students to be hands on during this Lenten season.

If you would like to help our youth meet their $5000 fundraising goal, visit their online fundraising site at

Spring Fundraiser Update
Golf & Technology Fund-A Need

Save the date of April 10 to learn a lot more about the future of technology at The Presentation School.  There will be a hands on demonstration for parents (as well as our students) from 1:30 to 3:30 pm by Beehively staff that afternoon.

Our spring fundraiser will enable us to meet our goal of providing robust access to learning technologies, and on-going training for faculty in best practices around enriching curricula with these tools.  Kids and teachers deserve an education that is more flexible, engaging and relevant in the 21st century. Whether or not you plan to play golf, we are hoping that you will participate!

If you are a golfer -- Click here to register to join us on April 25 at Eagle Vines Golf Club.

If you are not a golfer -- we ask that you take a moment right now to click here to participate in our Fund A Need for Technology.  We are hoping for 100% participation. We also invite you to join the fun for dinner only, for $50.

Students Raise Funds for Heifer International

Our students are finding creative ways to personally earn money for the school's Lenten Service project -- Heifer International.  They are performing jobs/ chores with the plan to each meet the minimum goal of $15.

Heifer International works to end hunger and poverty around the world by providing livestock and training to struggling communities.

In grade 6, Laura Couchman and Lily Phillips have started a babysitting business. The girls will babysit your children ages 2-8, play games, help with homework and even cook.  They charge a bargain rate and are excited to help you out!  You can download their flyer here.

We aren't asking for donations.  Our students agreed that it was more meaningful when they give money that they earned, than when they ask for money from parents or relatives.  We felt it was a wonderful manifestation of this giving spirit, to have it come directly from the labors of the students themselves -- giving them a deeper sense of involvement and "buy in" for the project.

Spring Student Projects in the Art Room

Our students have had a busy spring in the art room and many stunning projects are being set aside for our upcoming annual Art Faire on May 22.

Above, our 7th grade is working on Book Art.  They are using real books and carving into them and dismantling them to turn them fro literary art into visual art masterpieces.

Below, our 4th grade has been working on a 3D shoe projects.  This year's theme for the art show is: "If the Shoe Fits." Last year's contest was hats, this year we will have a shoe decorating contest.

A big thanks to Robert Raney, David Grieve, Jamil Harb, Don Douglas and Jon Sebastiani for donating a fantastic party at the Cordelia Gun Club last Saturday.  A great time was had by the dads (and a handful of graduates) in attendance, shooting, enjoying a huge BBQ and a lot of laughs.

The top three winners were (former pro football player) Tony Moll, Glenn Andi and Robert Raney!

6th Grader Natalie Sandoval Top Sonoma Valley Speller in Regional Bee

At the elementary school level, the fourth, fifth and sixth grade students from Sonoma Valley schools are inexplicably split between two different regional spelling
bees: the South County Bee and the Central County Bee.
The top five winners at each event move on Sonoma County Spelling Bee, and Presentation sixth grader Natalie Sandoval, was the only Sonoma Valley student to finish in the top five at a regional bee. She moved on to the Sonoma County Elementary Spelling Championship in late March and came in seventh place.  Congratulations Natalie!

These annual spelling competitions, which are organized by the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE), are designed to promote and acknowledge exemplary student achievement.
CLASS PHOTOS!

Class pictures have been rescheduled for this Wednesday, first thing in the morning.  Please make sure the order form returns with your child the day of picture taking.
Presentation Students Attend STEM Conference

Last week, seventh graders Lauren Flaherty and Mikaela Zeiter attended a one-day conference at Sonoma State University designed to expose 7th and 8th grade students to careers in math, science and engineering.

The "Expanding Your Horizons" day consisted of hands-on workshops conducted by women who have chosen a career in one of these fields. It also had sessions designed for parents and educators. More than 400 seventh and eighth grade students from throughout Sonoma, Lake, and Mendocino counties attended and the cost was only $15!

Students had a chance to choose three workshops to attend and Lauren and Mikaela gave the program rave reviews.   http://eyh-soco.org/
