Final Preparations Underway for....
You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown!
If you have been in the Activity Center lately, you have surely noticed an amazing work in progress --- the sets to our spring musical, You're  Good Man Charlie Brown.

You can click HERE to buy your tickets today!

Many, many thanks to school parent Rosemary McNeely who has enlisted the help of several of our middle school students (including 7th grader Hannah Rose McNeely) in painting these gorgeous set designs.  Thank you also to Yalda Teranchi, Bill Simpkins and Doug Atwood for their help with the set and lighting.  Aaron Redner and Vanessa Ronglien are our vocal coaches. Sarah Duran-Levine is choreographing two dance and action numbers added to the production.

The cast (which we will feature next week in the eNews) took a field trip in January to the Charles Schultz Museum, where they learned greater detail about many of the legendary Peanuts characters, Charles Schultz and the history of his comic strip. We were allowed to borrow a replica of Snoopy's Doghouse and Lucy's Psychiatric Booth and a few costumes courtesy of the Schultz Museum and Snoopy's Home Ice.

Our all-school event promises to delight and bring the joy of Charles Schultz's Peanuts to the school community. We hope everyone will come out to support our event and the Drama Program.
5th Grade and 7th Grade Study Architectural Design on Field Trip to SVMA Exhibit
Last week our 5th grade and our 7th grade headed up Broadway to the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art to see the newest exhibition.

SVMA has dedicated its entire 5,000-square-foot exhibition space to SITE & SENSES: The Architecture of Aidlin Darling Design. Our students heard about the aesthetic of these acclaimed young architects and had the chance to examine, sketch and discuss the projects and plans on display.

Aidlin Darling Design won the 2013 National Design Award. Conceived by the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, the National Design Awards honor excellence, innovation, and lasting achievement in American design. This award is bestowed upon firms whose complete body of work is extraordinarily original in identifying, shaping, and solving problems, and whose designs introduce formal innovation and significantly broaden the conventions of their discipline.
 Invention Convention This Week

Please join us this week for the  fifth grade's annual Invention Convention on Friday, February 28, in the Activity Center from 9:20 to 11:40am. The kids have been working on an invention that will make everyday life easier and are eager to share their creations!
San Francisco Opera Visits 1st and 2nd Grade Classrooms
Our 1st and 2nd grade students had their curiosities and imaginations piqued last week when they were visited by the San Francisco Opera Guild for the guild's popular Sing-a-Story program. An opera artist brought The Magic Flute, by Mozart, alive for the 1st graders and Das Rheingold, by Wagner, for the second graders. The students, guided by their music teacher, Miss Lynn MacArthur, spent several weeks learning the stories and music related to these classic operas. The entire class heard a dramatic retelling of the story, received choral coaching, learned about the elements of opera and participated in an abbreviated performance complete with captivating props and costumes! The children truly enjoyed this engaging event!

Presentation Students Get Into Olympic Spirit

Our students have caught Olympic fever!  Our entire student body has been checking in on the Games via the live feed being broadcast live in the Activity Center each day.

Meanwhile, our kinders have been keeping track of the daily medal counts during the Games (as seen in the chart behind these enthusiastic boys who are giving their best Olympic poses).

March Hot Lunch Orders Due Now!

Please take a moment to place your child's hot lunch order for the month of March!  Bon appetit!

Middle School White Out Dance A Big Hit

Kudos to our Student Council for organizing a terrific middle school dance on Friday night.  More than 25 guests from other schools joined in the fun and we had perhaps the highest turnout in recent school history!  Thank you to our chaperones also for pitching in!

Send Us News of About Your Student!

We are seeking news about our students' lives outside of school.  If your child competes at a high level on a select sports team or is involved in exceptional ways with other pursuits (4H, horseback riding, theater, etc.), please let us know. We are working on a story about these exciting extracurricular activities that compliment our students' lives in the classroom.
