Greetings!

We look forward to celebrating the season with you!

Our Christmas Liturgy will be at 10am on Thursday and the entire family is welcome to attend.

Our Christmas Celebration is at 6:30pm on Thursday and students need to be in their classrooms by 6:15pm.

Both events are dress uniform.  Plan to come early as parking will be tight although we are working on solutions.

Friday is Pajama Day for our students and a Minimum Day with dismissal at 12:30pn (no aftercare).

Happy Holidays!

Entire School Enjoys Hour of Code!

All of our students were exposed to computer coding this week as part of the "Hour of Code" campaign organized as part of Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 9-15).

Did you know:

  • Software jobs outnumber students 3-to-1. The gap is 1 million jobs over 10 years- and these are some of the highest paying jobs.
  • 90% of schools in the US do not teach computer science.
  • In many countries, it is required (China, Vietnam, Estonia. Soon... the UK and Australia)
  • The basics can be learned by anybody, starting in elementary school. But fewer than 10% of students try. Only 2% are women.
The Hour of Code campaign had an audacious goal: to introduce 10 million students to one hour of computer science, and The Presentation School students, with our help, helped them far exceed that goal!!

Programming literacy is going to be key to our student's future. Computer Science provides a foundation for virtually any career and everybody can benefit from learning the basics.

The students in 3rd grade used Blockly to code a greeting card they can send this holiday season. This is a link explaining more: http://csedweek.org/. Pictured above are our second graders, coding using Tynker.

Ask your child how they liked it, the feedback we have heard so far has been incredibly positive and we are pleased to announce that Scott Walthard will be offering an after-school coding class (via PERKS) this winter. Stay tuned for more details.
8th Grade "Free Rice" Service Project
8th graders Natalie Gulrajani and Aria Schuler are addressing the issue of hunger for their service project. Their project is to address hunger in three areas- world-wide, nation-wide, and community-wide.

They are using a website called freerice.com to address world-wide hunger. At www.freerice.com the students answer academic questions to earn grains of rice. Every correct answer gives 10 grains of rice to children in need. The girls are going to go into 3rd-8th grade classrooms to have students participate.

The girls did it with the 8th graders one day last week and in just 20 minutes. the 8th grade class was able to earn 14,500 grains of rice -- enough to feed 145 kids.

They have started a group for the Presentation community so anyone can participate. This is a great activity to keep your child entertained and productive over the holiday break!

Extra, Extra, Read All About It!

On January 16th The Presentation School will celebrate its first annual Winter Open House.  This will be a great time for our amazing community to come together, tour classrooms, and admire your students' work.  Our rock wall will be open and students can show you how they can now code an angry bird!  It's time to celebrate the first half of the school year!

In addition, we will be inviting prospective new families to this event.  We want these families to see what great kids and families we have at The Presentation School! We can't do that with out YOU!  Think of who you might invite to our Open House, friends are welcome and encouraged!

In addition to attending the Open House, we are also looking for a few families willing to "Host" a welcome table.  Love our school?  Want to help others discover the difference of a Presentation School education?  Click here to let Tracy know you would like to join the Open House Welcome Team!

We look forward to seeing all our families, so mark your calendars for January 16th at 6pm
