Greetings!

Dear Presentation Families,

It was great to see all of our parents at conferences this week. We know that a week of minimum days are a lot to juggle (for everyone), but the opportunity to sit down with your children's teachers is valuable - for everyone.
We appreciate all of the help with after-school care from our 8th graders and faculty. Next week returns to "normal."

There is one correction in the information that has been shared in the classrooms and some newsletters. Wednesday, Oct 30th is a Full Uniform Dress Day, as we will celebrate our All Saints/Dia del los Muertos Mass.

The updated Halloween Week Schedule is posted below.
We are finalizing our schedule of fun events for Oct 31 (minimum day). Students are welcome and encouraged to wear their costumes to school. We ask that costumes be appropriate for a k-8 school, and any costume accessories that are replicas of weapons be removed and left at home.  We also ask that costumes not be too scary, as we will be parading with the younger students.

Reaching You In the Case of An Emergency

Last Thursday, the school sent a test message of the Urgent Alert System.  The message was sent as an email, text and voice message.  If you did not receive any message, please let Laura Wallace know (lwallace@presentationschool.com).It is important to make sure that all of your current contact information is updated in Beehively.

On Beehively, under About Me, there are boxes (See below) for your primary phone numbers for voice and text.  These are numbers - the more information you input, the more ways we have of contacting you in case of an emergency.

Climbing Team Begins Weekend Climbs

Climbing team coach Taylor Knott is offering some fun extra climbing events for our students who climb. Weekend trips will be offered every other weekend starting this weekend.

On Friday Nov. 1st, he is inviting students to a Headlight Halloween Headlamp Climb at Planet Granite San Francisco, 7:30-10:30pm, Costume and Headlamp Climb

Visit www.sonomaclimbing.com for all details.
Kinders Travel to Tolay Festival

The kinder students pet a snake and shot a bow & arrow last week at the Tolay Festival!  Check out the adorable kinder blog to read all about it at http://mrsmillerskinders2013.edublogs.org. The password is the name of our school in lower case letters.

Preparations Begin for Middle School Dance Friday!
Food Drive Ends This Week

Our middle school Service Learning Elective is running a food drive that ends this Friday, October 25th. They are seeking any non-perishable food and/or blankets or clothing that they can donate to the Redwood Food Bank.  There are three collection cans: one for the main building, one for Upper Grades and one for Lower Grades.

Our students seek to increase awareness of the fact that hunger is a year round struggle and not just something that exists throughout the holidays.

See's Candy Fundraiser Begins -- Sweet!

Flyers for our See's Candy Fundraiser went home last week. This is a great way to support the school -- the candy makes great gifts. Order forms are due back in the
school office by Monday, November 4th.  Please contact Kirsten Flaherty at kirstennflaherty@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Cross Country Competes in Final Meet

Our final Cross Country meet was held in Healdsburg on Tuesday. Three of our students competed, Micki (6th), Mikaela (7th) and Nicholas (5th). All students improved their times as compared from our previous three meets -- we are very proud of their performance and effort this season!
Grad News:  Gianna Ricci, Class of 2010

It was terrific to see a feature story about our graduate Gianna Ricci in the pages of the most recent Justin-Siena school newsletter (reprinted below).

Gianna is a member of the Live Oak 4-H Club in Petaluma and had quite a successful summer; including receiving two supreme championships in the same year, which has only been achieved by two other people in the history of the fair.

  • Sonoma County Fair- Champion Senior Swine Showman & Champion Senior Beef Showman.
  • 4-H Grand Champions & Supreme Champions- Supreme Champion
  • Market Hog and the Supreme Champion Market Steer
  • California State Fair-Reserve Champion Senior Beef Showman
"I believe that the opportunity to raise and show livestock is the greatest gift I have received. The lessons I have learned are priceless and cannot be obtained through any other activity. Showing for the past nine years has shaped me into the person I am today and has taught me responsibility, good morals, proper work ethic as well as leading me to discover my passion through my experiences. While so much of my time has always been and is still spent working and showing there has never been a moment when I have regretted any of my efforts. I attribute my accomplishments and success over the years to my love and dedication to competitively showing animals and all aspects of the livestock industry. Through programs such as FFA and 4-H a child can find themselves and discover their passions while becoming mature and responsible young adults."
