Dear Presentation Community,

I credit the kids for making the school fun, but the adults for making it run.  It was a great first full week of school.  The children, all of them, are back to work and play.  The teachers are simply awesome: collaborative, focused and positive.

Some Reminders: I would encourage parents to be aware of a couple things that make pick up and drop off tricky.  Please try to come a little earlier in the morning or a little later at the end of the day.  Please do not leave your cars in the drop off lane and go to find your student (k-3 teachers will bring their students to the front of the school for pick up). We also ask that parents not wait for their kids near the classrooms, but rather in front of the school near the benches or under the awning near the admin building.  We want teachers to have the chance to end the day without too many distractions. Lastly, please remember to check in at the front office if you come to school during the day for any reason.  You will receive a visitor pass if you need to go to one of the classrooms.  Otherwise, we can handle messages and things that are dropped off.  This is a safety matter for us and we appreciate your help.

We hope you are having a great Labor Day weekend.  We look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday, the 3rd.

Printed School Directories & Beehively

Many families enjoy having a copy of the school family directory for their car, by their phone etc.  This year, to save paper and to ensure the most up-to-date information, all of this information can be accessed anytime from your computer or phone on the school's Beehively site here.

But, if you still enjoy a paper copy, you can download the updated version AS OF TODAY by clicking here. When you do so, you will notice that information is missing for some parents (perhaps you?).  Families with missing information are urged to log in TODAY,  HERE to update their information.

We are working with our rep at Beehively to work out of a few bugs (and there always are a few).  We appreciate your patience. Teachers will communicate homework assignments with you and the students until we are sure the system is up and running the way we want it.  Note that this is our primary means of emergency notification, so if you do not list your phone numbers, you will not be able to be reached by the school's emergency notification system.

If you cannot log in, please email Laura Wallace at

Imagine an Evening in Hawaii on
 SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12

Planning for our fall fundraiser is in high gear.  Thank you very much to Chairs Toni Veronese and Bridget Paul for stepping forward to organize this event.  The night is always a great means of building community as well as an important way to raise funds to cover the gap between the actual cost of tuition at Presentation and the tuition charged our families.  So pull out your craziest Hawaiian garb and plan to join us on October 12.

We rely on our entire school community for auction items and to work on various aspects of the event. Please tell Nancy Bei how you would like to help. Email nancybei@comcast.net.

Introducing:  Marietta Natuzzi
The third in a series of introductions to new faculty members and those taking on new roles

Marietta Natuzzi is our third grade co-teacher and librarian this year.  You might recognize Marietta from her time on campus as co-teacher last year and if you have older children, from her time as our afternoon kindergarten teacher six or seven years ago.

Marietta received her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University, and her B.A. from UCLA in Music Education.

Her first teaching job was with the Jefferson Elementary Unified School District in Daly City teaching Kindergarten.  Marietta is excited to be working in Presentation's third grade classroom in the areas of Language Arts and Math.  She is also excited about her new role as the school librarian.  Please stop by and say hello, she looks forward to seeing new and familiar faces in the library.

In addition to teaching, Marietta enjoys road trips with her family, watching her boys play baseball, and loves going to concerts and musical plays.
Welcome to The Country Lunchbox!

Presentation's new school lunch program starts this Tuesday.  If you turned in your child's lunch order before the end of the day last Thursday, your child can expect to get hot lunch.  If you did not yet place an order, you can see the summary of menu offerings in the school office or online here :
You can also download the Sept. calendar here.  Orders placed before the end of the day THIS Thursday will enable your child to get hot lunch the second week (starting Sept. 9)

The website and online ordering form are still being finessed so, for the month of September, please mark the calendar with checks for items you wish to order. Leave the order, along with payments by check or cash to Lisa Atwood, in the front office.

Orders placed for the whole month in advance would be greatly appreciated.

This is a work in progress.  Please be patient and flexible as we roll out this new program.  Thank you!

Calling All Legos!
Lego
We know you have them all over your house and probably stepped on one recently.  The school would like to keep a couple bins of Legos in the library for after-school and lunch recess.  If you would like to donate your unwanted legos to the school, we would love to have them.  Please drop off at the library.
Emergency Procedures at Presentation

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
As we have so many new families, a brief overview of Presentation's emergency procedures seems prudent.

Notification --  In the event of an emergency concerning one student:

1.   The school secretary consults the emergency card for instructions to reach the parents or responsible party by phone.

2.   If no responsible person can be reached by phone and the illness or injury is serious, the secretary will arrange for the student to be given emergency treatment at the local hospital.

3.   No ill or injured student will ever be permitted to go home alone.

In the event of a larger community emergency:

Parents will be reached with instructions via Beehively's emergency notification system.

Preparedness:  Families are asked to send in a student emergency bag with for each student. It will supply basic needs and provide comfort for children in a frightening situation.  It is stored at school until the end of the school year. The complete list of contents can be found here.  These bags are due on Sept. 20.  Right now, our 8th grade class is raising money for its trip to Washington, D.C. by gathering the contents of these emergency bags for parents.  Stop by the office to sign up for a ready-made bag.

In the event of a disaster such as an earthquake, the likelihood of many children spending an extended amount of time at school waiting for a responsible adult to pick them up increases dramatically. The faculty is aware of the responsibility we share in this matter - it continues to be an item of on-going discussion and preparation.

Catching Up With a Grad: Christina Byrne

ChrstinaHow great to see a photo of Christina Bryne (right), Presentation class of 2010, in the most recent Justin-Siena High School newsletter (in an article about the school's 1-1 iPad program).

Stina is now a senior at Justin where she is active in the school's dance program.  She competes in Irish Step Dancing and she was recently certified as a Zumba instructor. She is also captain of Justin's tennis team. She is working on her college applications right now and hopes to attend either U.C. San Diego or U.C. Davis.

Volunteers Needed

A school as small as Presentation, with as wide a range of offerings as we provide, relies heavily on parent volunteers.

Coming up, we are looking for help with the Imagine Event, at the Holiday Home Tour, daily with hot lunch and in after-care after school on weekdays.

We hope that every family will choose at least one way to get involved and to help out.  You can print out information about all of the many options available HERE. Please see or call Nancy Bei (707-935-0122 x 202) for more details on any volunteer opportunity.

Kinders Enjoy New Picnic Tables

Presentation has arranged a safe and easy way for our kinder students to eat snack and/or lunch outside on nice days.  In the past, because we wanted to keep our littlest students close by their classroom, they always ate inside. Look how much they are enjoying their lunch outside at our new picnic tables right outside their classroom on a recent gorgeous day!

SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Lice: The problem of head lice is a problem for all schools everywhere.  We remind everyone that control of this nuisance is a matter of vigilance for parents, and schools.  Your help in inspecting your child throughout the year  will be greatly appreciated.  If you suspect your child is infested with head lice, please notify the school.  The school will treat this will complete discretion, but returning to school without taking care of the issue is not allowed. For more information

go to: cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/gen_info/index.html

School Pictures:  School pictures will take place Sept 11.  Students will wear Dress Uniform attire for pictures. The shoe requirement is that shoes be predominantly brown or black.

Perks Change of Date: Perks will begin Sept 18th, not the 17th.  More information on the Perks being offered this year will be sent via e-blast soon.

Back to School Night (k-8) is Sept 17th.  More information coming soon from teachers and in the eNews.

Barn or Storage Space?  If you have some extra space in a barn, shed, garage or warehouse, we are looking for a place to store our art display boards, as well as some set pieces for theater.  These boards currently live on the stage and they are preventing us from using the space for drama and music.  Please contact Laura Wallace if you can help us out with storage.

Sports:  This will be a busy fall for Presentation athletics with volleyball, cross country, climbing and tennis seasons beginning shortly.  Click HERE for the cross country permission slip.  Click HERE for the volleyball permission slip and all Presentation athletes need to download the concussion information and waiver form HERE.  Click HERE to download the tennis team form. Click HERE to learn more about our rock climbing program.

Credit Card Billing:   We urge all of our school families to complete a credit card authorization form and simply check the box, "charge my credit card on file".  Doing so enables all future lunch orders, field trips, event tickets and sports signups to be billed to your card effortlessly. And you will still receive a complete accounting of the charges. Just complete the form and return to the business office. Click here.

Uniform Details: You should have received Presentation's slightly updated uniform policy but it you would like to print out another copy, it is available here.
