See you there!
Dear Presentation Community,

Thank you for a great start to the school year! Your kids are incredible - polite, helpful, and kind. I also appreciate all the parents who were able to make the parent coffee on Thursday. If you were not able to attend, no worries. An information packet will be sent home with your students by the middle of next week.

As we settle into the school year, please consider (esp. for older students) dropping off a little earlier, and picking up a little later, so the start and end times of the day does not feel so rushed for teachers and kids. Waiting a little longer to pick your kids up after school gives them some time to collect their belongings, talk with teachers and friends, and allows the parents of younger students collect their kids first.

On a separate note, both the new Hot Lunch Program and After School Care will start September 3. The Perks program will begin Sept 17. More information regarding these programs will be forthcoming. I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. We are ready to go with our first full week of school. Congratulations and thank you.

Welcome to The Country Lunchbox!

Presentation's new school lunch program will begin Tuesday, September 3rd. The September calendar and a summary of menu offerings will be distributed in the classrooms, and will be available in the front office as well as accessed online (prices are on attached form):
http://www.countrylunchboxsonoma.comYou can also download the Sept. calendar here.

The website and online ordering form are still being finessed so, for the month of September, please mark the calendar with checks for items you wish to order. Leave the order, along with payments by check or cash to Lisa Atwood, in the front office.

Please place your orders no later than this Thursday, September 28, for lunches served the following week. Orders placed for the whole month in advance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for your patience while we get the website up and running!

Introducing:  Mathew Kamel
The second in a series of introductions to new faculty members and those taking on new roles
KamelMatthew Kamel has joined Presentation School to teach our third grade class. He received his undergraduate degree from Boston University in Business Administration and his masters degree in Elementary Education from Simmons College. During the 2012-2013 school year, Matthew was an assistant science teacher at the Phillips Brooks School in Menlo Park, CA. Before moving to California, he lived in Boston for six years. Matthew grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, a small town about 20 miles from New York City.

Matthew believes strongly in the Responsive Classroom Philosophy and has integrated many of the practices into his teaching methods. Responsive Classroom is an approach to teaching that values improving social-emotional skills as well as academic skills of the student. His particular interests are teaching math along with biology and chemistry.

In his spare time Matthew enjoys hiking and biking. He loves watching football and basketball, his favorite teams are the Giants (not the baseball team!) and the Celtics. In his classroom you can find fiddler crabs in a specially designed tank.

Matthew is looking forward to having a fantastic year teaching third grade at the Presentation School and to becoming a part of the Sonoma community!

Please join us in welcoming Matthew to Presentation.
All Parents Must Register with Beehively by Sept. 1
Beehively
For the second year, The Presentation School will rely on the web-based system Beehively (Schoolyard) for weekly classroom newsletters, online grading and for emergency notifications.  It is crucial that all parents register on the system right away or you may miss important classroom announcements.  Parents were offered a chance to get help signing in the first day of school and given instructions.  Attached HERE is that short explanation again as to how to log in.  Please reply to this email if you go through all the steps and still cannot access your account.  Note:  You can choose which newsletters to receive under the button called My Info.

We look forward to a terrific year of communication and are confident that parents will appreciate the ease of use that Beehively provides once they are signed in.
Library Welcome Letter

Library

My name is Marietta Natuzzi and I am happy to announce that I will be your new librarian!  This is a new role for me and I am extremely excited to learn all about it.

For any updates and information you would like about our school library, please make sure you subscribe to "Library" on Beehively!  You can also visit "Library" on the Beehively site.  There I will be posting volunteer opportunities, check-in and check-out policies, library calendar and schedule, and any related links.   The library page is in a "work in progress," so please be patient as I further develop it throughout the school year.  I will do my best to inform you of any changes.

Any questions, comments and/or suggestions, please feel free to email me as well.  I welcome any support you have to offer.  Here's to an incredible school year!

Emergency Bags Due Sept. 20
8th Grade DC Fundraiser Will Prepare One For You!

EMERGENCY BAGS!

As part of the fundraising effort for their April trip to Washington D.C., the eighth grade will be selling emergency kits.  So stop torturing yourself trying to find canned fruit!

Each bag will hold all of the required items - less the contact information card (though we will provide the index card) and the personal note.  All bags will be peanut-free.

For those who require a bag that includes the emergency blanket, the cost will be $25.  For those who have an emergency blanket from previous years, the cost will be $20.  You can place your order in the office or by emailing Beth Porter (see below).  You can bill the purchase to your credit card on file, or can drop a check or cash in the office.  The bags will be dropped off in your classroom before the due date, with your name on an index card clipped to the outside.

Any questions?  Contact Beth Porter at bethcporter@yahoo.com

Student Council Hits The Ground Running

Student councilOur Student Council, elected last May, met for a work day last week to prepare for the upcoming school year (most of whom are pictured here).  These students work closely with Mr. Parker and the Upper and Lower School heads on social activities at school (dances), school-wide events (buddy lunches and Field Day) and town outreach (community service).  Led by Katie Faircloth, they are the liaison between the students and the school administration.

Trustees & Staff Welcome New Families

It is an annual tradition that each August, the week before school starts, our Trustees welcome new families at a reception.  This year, the event was hosted at the home of Mark and Mona Couchman.  It was a gorgeous night and the enthusiasm for the year ahead was contagious.
