Greetings from campus!
Dear Presentation School Community,

I hope that this note reaches you, and especially your kids, still in summer's warm grip.   My family and I have been in Sonoma for a month now, and we are finally feeling our feet touch ground.  My time at the school has been spent getting to know our incredible faculty, administrative professionals, support staff and services.  While there is a lot to do before school begins, I am excited to get there.

Something special to note: several times following one of the summer camps on campus, a student has gone out of his or her way to say hello, introduce herself and welcome me to the school.  THAT is a rare glimpse of a school's character.

Schools make no sense without kids.  I am so excited to hear the campus buzz with their laughter, bizarre questions and informative mistakes.  We have been working hard to make sure that each child feels ready and welcome on day one.  I have a good deal of helpful feedback from teachers and parents regarding those things that make this place special.  We also have a forming picture of some steps that we can take to make everyone's experience even better.  The faculty and I will be working together to articulate our areas of growth, as well as things that parents can do to support our work with your kids.

I hope to see you all at the back to school coffee on the 22nd, as well as the all school picnic on the 25th.

Thank you for reading.  Now back to Summer!

Save The Dates:  The First Week of School

August 22 is the first day of school for k-8.  This is a very short day: 8:30-10:30am.  It will give the kids a chance to meet their teachers, see their classrooms and hear a word of encouragement from Scott Parker.

August 22 is also the Back to School Coffee (hosted by our grade 2 parents).  While your children are meeting their teachers, staff will meet with parents and guardians in the Activities Center/Gym.  We will use this time to make some brief introductions, and learn more about all of the ways the school is working to make our students' experience more rich through parent volunteers.

August 23 is also a short day: 9am-12:30pm

August 25 Back to School Picnic: 3pm-6pm (There is no charge. Bring your own favorite picnic for your family, drop a blanket and relax with the community)

Exciting News About Our Lunch Program

School lunch

There are some exciting changes in store for our students when hot lunch begins on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The lunch program will feature fresh and healthy kid-friendly choices that make ample use of Sonoma's seasonal fresh produce, in addition to the harvest of our own school garden, when available.

The five-day-a-week program will be prepared entirely by culinary professionals who are both past and present Presentation school parents, focused on keeping mealtime fresh, nutritious, yummy and FUN.

Expect selections such as Chicken Teriyaki Bowl, Taco Salad, Vegetable Lasagna, Sesame Noodles with Garden Vegetables, Winter Soups, Grilled Burgers, Sushi and much more. Pizza will continue to be offered one day a week and Sonoma Market will feature an items from their catering menu one day a week as well.

And thanks to the Sonoma County Healthy and Sustainable Food Action Plan released last fall, school families with bumper crops of fruits and vegetables in their home gardens will be able to donate their whole fruits and vegetables for use in our school lunch program.

A website for ordering is in the works. Lunches will be $5.  A tasting of potential Sonoma Market menu items is scheduled for next Thursday, August 15th. If your child would like to participate in the tasting, please contact Lisa Atwood at lisaatwood@icloud.com

Thank you to all the parents and students who filled out our survey last year.
Date Set for Curriculum Night

September 17 is Presentation's Back to School/Curriculum Night (k-8).  We are trying something new this year! Instead of three nights, the entire community will be on campus on the 17th to visit their students' classes, hear from teachers, and enjoy some time together.  This is "in the works," so stay tuned, and open-minded.
We Need Volunteers!

Presentation Expands Sports Team Offerings to Include Tennis!

While the plans are not yet completely firm, Athletic Director Christine Neles and school parent Lisa Dedmore have been hard at work this summer setting up a new Presentation tennis team.

The team will start practice on August 27 and practice will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:30 pm through about mid-October at the Maxwell Park tennis courts. USTA teaching professional Felipe Monroy will run the Tuesday practice clinics and Christine and Lisa will run the practice matches on Thursdays.

Teams will be based on skill, not age. Anyone in grades 5-8 are welcome to try out.  We will have an "A" team and a "B" team. The tryouts will be run by Felipe in a USTA format.

The cost is expected to be approximately $130 and will include a team t-shirt. There will be a clipboard in the school office the first day for sign-ups.
Slight Changes in Uniform Policy
savedforweb
There has been a slight change in Presentation's uniform policy.  While you are strongly encouraged to familiarize yourself with the entire uniform policy, two changes are worth noting:

In the interest of both comfort and ease, students may wear any color PE appropriate, enclosed shoes (i.e. no open toes or heels), and any color socks.  There are no length requirements on socks, but socks must be worn.  On Dress Uniform Days, students are asked to wear predominantly black or brown shoes, and heels must still be under 2 inches.  Additional outer-wear options will be made available throughout the year. Compliance with the uniform policy is ultimately the responsibility of the parents and students. Click here to read the specifics.
Artist in Residence Aaron Redner To Sing National Anthem at Giants Game August 24!
Redner
If you are a Giants fan or a fan of Aaron and his band, Hot Buttered Rum, be sure to tune in to the Giants game on August 24 when they will be performing the National Anthem prior to the first pitch.  Aaron is thrilled about the opportunity.

Congratulations also to Aaron and his wife Alexa on the birth of their son Koya in July!  A big summer for the Redners.
Volleyball Season To Start Shortlyvolleyball
This fall, Presentation will field sixth, seventh and eighth grade co-ed volleyball teams.  In preparation for the season, throughout August, PE Director Christine Neles is hosting an Open Gym on Thursday evenings in August from 6:30-7:30pm. Moms and Dads  are invited to join in too.
