SPLASH Party Is Tuesday 3:30pm
Splash

Get ready to jump, splash and dunk as we celebrate summer! The fourth annual Summer Splash event will take place on Tuesday from 3:30pm to 6pm.

Monday is the last day to register as we need to buy the food for the dinner.  The cost is $10 per adult, and $5 per child (4 and under are free). The ticket price includes dinner, snacks, drinks and wine for the adults.

A number of our new families will be joining us for the event.  If you see a family you do not know, please take a moment to introduce yourself!

The party features jumpies, slides, a dunk booth, cotton candy, and music!   Parents must accompany their children so please plan on arriving at school at the regular pick up time and then signing your student into the event.

First Grade to Assist Tornado Victims

Sean Casey

The first grade class is spearheading a fund-raising campaign to help the victims of the tornadoe that hit Moore, Oklahoma and destroyed many homes, hospitals and the local schools. Sean Casey father of Shea (1st) and Rose (K) was on the ground in Oklahoma documenting this terrible storm.

Sean is an IMAX filmmaker and professional storm chaser who starred in the American documentary reality television series Storm Chasers. He created an IMAX film called 'Tornado Alley' about chasing tornadoes and had to build the Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV) and the Tornado Intercept Vehicle 2 (TIV2) to film inside a tornado.  He will be at school on Monday at 2:30pm and all school families are invited to come hear him speak about his experiences.

Donations were collected at the art fair and will continue before and after school all week.

Fifth Grade Dissects Cow Hearts
Cow hearts

Our fifth graders have been studying body systems in science and last week they focused on the circulatory system. Students have been learning about the flow of blood through the heart and its importance in the oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange in the lungs.

Last week students had the option to participate in a dissection, observe the dissections, or complete a written assignment about the heart during the lab.

A big thank you to Sonoma Market for donating the calf hearts used by the fifth grade in their dissections last week! Another thank you to Mrs. Faircloth for assisting them in their dissection! The students had a memorable day in the science lab.
4th Grade Entertains With Literary Puppet Shows
Puppetd
Our fourth grade staged some terrific and entertaining puppet shows last week for our students and class parents.  The class took four classic fairy tales and added their own unique twist.

8th Grade and 4th Grade Launch Rockets
rockets
Our 8th grade built and launched water bottle rockets as a culminating project for its study of forces and motion. Students designed their own rockets, then used the scientific method to troubleshoot the poor launch height. In the end, rockets reached altitudes of about 15 meters.  They invited their buddy class (the 4th grade) to launch the rockets with them.

Next time you are in the Activity Center, please stop by to appreciate the beautiful faux stained glass created by Teresa Caselli.  The chapel looks completely different and the bright colors add a festive beauty to the spot.
8th Grader Renee Serota Chosen as Davidson Scholar

For the first time in Presentation's history, a student has been selected as a Davidson Scholar.  Although almost 40% of our students in grades 3-8 have qualified for the John Hopkins Gifted Program in year's past based on their Stanford-10 scores, Renee Serota is our first student to receive the classification from Davidson as a profoundly gifted student.  Renee will receive free enrichment support from Davidson through high school and college as well as financial support for college.

The Davidson Young Scholars qualification criteria was developed to identify the extreme end of the gifted population. This free program offers a set of services designed to nurture the intellectual development of profoundly intelligent young people.  Profoundly gifted students are those who score in the 99.9th percentile on IQ and achievement tests.
