8th Graders Choose High Schools
Our eighth graders toured, shadowed and in some cases completed extensive applications to highly selective high schools around the North Bay.
We are pleased to report that our graduates this year will be headed to Justin-Siena High School in Napa, Cardinal-Newman High School in Santa Rosa, Marin Academy in San Rafael, as well as Sonoma Valley High School. One eighth grader will be enrolling at Laurel Springs (online) to pursue her musical ambitions. We also will say a warm goodbye to a 7th grader who has been accepted to The Groton School (MA) as a boarding student for the 8th grade.
We are very proud of our graduates and we look forward to keeping in touch in the years to come and we wish them great success in high school.

5th Grade Artwork Featured at
Sonoma Valley Museum of Art (SVMA)

Since its inception ten years ago, more than 5,000 local elementary school students have participated in Sonoma's Art Rewards The Student (ARTS) program at SVMA. The program was founded by a group of local parents concerned about the lack of arts curriculum in the public schools after the 4th grade. Presentation School is fortunate to have been an early believer in the program and the only local private school to participate.
Local artists work with SVMA to chose a project and then spend several sessions with fifth grade classrooms classroom preparing pieces for the exhibit (in our case we are fortunate to have school parent Rosemary McNeely head up this program).
Most of Sonoma's elementary schools, including Presentation, then schedule a field trip to SVMA to "visit" the art they have created. "They are so excited to seeing their work exhibited at a real art museum," says Margie Maynard at SVMA.
Everyone is invited to the opening reception of this year's exhibition: Minidoka on Young Minds, and see how these students interpreted the art of Roger Shimomura. The exhibit open May 17 at a reception from 5-7pm.
In a fascinating collection of paintings and lithographs that meld pop art with a derivation ofukiyo-e prints, Roger Shimomura depicts snatches of memories from the years he was incarcerated in a World War II concentration camp.
The A.R.T.S. theme changes each year but as Maynard explains, "We start with California's Visual and Performing Arts Standards and then look for themes that are relevant to the 5th grade curriculum. This year's theme provided great opportunities for investigation and exploration."

School Yard Online Grading and Directory
In lieu of the printed school family directories we have used in the past, all parent information is now kept up to date on School Yard which is easily accessible from the front page of our web site. The benefit of School Yard is that your teacher announcements, student grades and the directory are all now in one place. If you still like having a printed directory, it is easy to click "print" for your child's grade or the entire school and to put that printed version in your binder. If you have any trouble accessing the directory, please contact Mrs. Wallace in the office.
The directory is only as accurate as the information provided by parents, however. If any of your contact information has changes, please log in here to update your listing.
