Presentation Track Meet Athletes Shine
Trackboys
Almost 90 of our students in grades five through eighth enjoyed a hot day of athletic competition all day on Friday at the Middle School Sports League Annual Track Meet at Santa Rosa Junior College.  Our students have been practicing over the last few weeks on various events, including running, high jump, long jump and shot put. Our athletes were encouraged to participate in three of the four events.

While the official results will not be available for a week or two, our Presentation athletes made the school proud.  Our 5th grade had a particularly strong showing in their first year participating!  Thank you to our parents and coaches who joined us on Friday and helped out throughout the day.

Presentation Students Snag BOTH Lead Roles in BBK's ANNIE!
Annie
Annie is a classic musical based on a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage.

The musical is staged by Broadway Bound Kids at the Sonoma Veterans Auditorium this Thursday, May 9th & Friday, May 10th at 7:30pm, Saturday, May 11 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm and Sunday, May 12 at 1:00pm & 5:00pm. With special Mother's Day performance on both shows Sunday, May 12th.

The role of Annie is being played by Presentation's own Hannah Rose McNeely and Megan James (chosen from a cast of more than 100 for the role). More than a dozen other Presentation students have key roles as well!

Tickets can be purchased at Pharmaca, 301 West Napa Street or at the door for all performances. Ticket prices are: $17 adults, $15 for children 12 and under, and seniors 65 and older. For more information, email BBKInfo@aol.com

4th Grade Lives California History in Coloma
Coloma
Grade 4 just returned from three days in Coloma, studying the Gold Rush (and panning for gold!) as the culmination of their California history curriculum.

The Coloma Outdoor Discovery School's Gold Rush program is designed for fourth graders, and is correlated with the California Content Standards. The program is designed to celebrate the culture, music, and folklore of the California Gold Rush while using lessons of the past to awaken students' interest and sense of responsibility for the environment.

At CODS, students live the Gold Rush: stories, songs, skits, and characterizations all help to convey the social and economic community of early Coloma. Students will walk in the footsteps of the 49ers and experience some of the challenges of surviving away from home.  All of the educational programs at the Outdoor School operate around the concept of respect: for nature, oneself, and others.

Presentation Grads Host Reading Program for Grades 2-5
  GirlsRead
Does your daughter love reading?  Kiki Couchman, a freshman at Marin Academy, and Brianna Lehane, a freshman at Sonoma Valley High School, met at Presentation and bonded over their love of reading.  This summer they will be offering a girls' book club called Becoming Bookworms with the goal of instilling a love of learning in girls and to keep their minds active over the summer.

They will offer two sessions of five weeks each.  The sessions for second and third graders start June 10 or July 15.  The sessions for fourth and fifth graders start June 12 or July 17.  The club meets weekly from 4-5 p.m. in the back garden at Readers Books on East Napa.  The cost is $50 per session. To register, email becomingbookworms@gmail.com.
6th Grade Basketball Season Underway
Boys bball
Our sixth grade boys basketball is facing some stiff competition across the county but the boys are getting better every game and appear to be having "a ball."

Our sixth grade girls basketball team is currently undefeated with a 5-0 record against some tough teams.

Many thanks to our coaches Barney LeHane, Chris Neles and Dana Freudenberger.

The Thank You Box
Thank you to incoming school parent Doug MacFarland for donating the seedlings to start our summer segment of the garden. Doug is the Executive Chef at Ramekins and Ramekins donated a variety of tomatoes, peppers, basil and kale to get it started. Very generous of them!

Thank you also to the McNeely family for hosting the beautiful party in honor of Nancy Fischman on Friday night!  We will have photos in next week's eNews.
Science Olympiad Team Enjoys Competition
Parker
Presentation School's Science Olympiad Team of 4th, 5th and 6th graders competed last weekend at the Sonoma County Science Olympiad Competition against a dozen other area schools.  Our team consisted of 6th graders Allison Cooley, Jack Wolff, Olivia Teranchi, Mikaela Zeiter;
5th graders Justine Broadman, Stella Polling; 4th graders Sean Flaherty, Blake Douglas, Ana Harb, Isabella Dedmore, Sophia Riebli, Keenan McElroy, Natalie Sandoval, Nicholas Zeiter, Parker Temkin and Graysen Geldert.

They were excited to come in second place in "Investigations" with the team of Jack Wolff , Justine Broadman, Keenan McElroy, and Stelling Polling; and fourth place  in "Picture This" with the team of Olivia Teranchi, Stella Polling, Natalie Sandoval, Graysen Geldert and Isabella Dedmore.

The Science Olympiad is a fun and spirited team event that challenges Sonoma County students to demonstrate their scientific knowledge, understanding, and skill. As students prepare for participation in the competition, they work in the disciplines of life, earth, and physical science. They learn science facts, concepts, processes, and skills, then apply this learning in Science Olympiad events.

The Science Olympiad is devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science, and providing recognition for outstanding achievement.

The event, now in its 25th year, consists of a series of individual and team challenges that are balanced among the various disciplines of life, earth, and physical science. The day ends with the exciting Naked Egg Drop event and awards ceremony, which families and friends are invited to attend.

Thank you to our coaches Joel Kushner and Laurie Gaynor!

Primary Grades Tackle the School Garden
Primary
The primary grades have been busy in the garden. On Earth Day, they planted sweet potatoes and wildflowers and, this past week, watched as ladybugs were released into the garden.  Several children commented that "there are so many, they are all over me!" In addition, the kinders released four butterflies that had emerged from cocoons.  As they were flying away, Jackson Campbell commented, "they are going to miss us!"  So true!
