Presentation Speaker Series Presents:
Mindful
On Thursday, April 18 at 8:30am, school parent Suzie Cook will be speaking in the Presentation School library on  Mindfulness. Mindfulness is the mental faculty of purposefully bringing non-judgmental awareness to one's experience. Studies suggest that bringing the skill of mindfulness into schools:
  • Increases Attention Span: creating more focus & higher academic
  • achievement
  • Improves Impulse Control: making classroom management easier, increasing teaching time
  • Reduces Stress: leading to happier and more effective kids
  • Builds Community & Empathy: leading to a healthier school community
Susie Cook is certified and trained by Mindful Schools to teach mindfulness to children. She has her Masters in Counseling Psychology and is currently renewing her Marriage and Family Therapist's license in California. For more information about this research and further studies on the benefits of mindful practice and children:  www.mindfulschools.org

7th Grade Girls Basketball Championship Game
7th grade girls
On Thursday afternoon at Sonoma Country Day School our 7th grade girls played their hearts out, falling just short of winning the championship but they made the school proud coming in second place in the Middle School Sports League.

Congratulations to our girls on a terrific season, to all the parents and students who came out to cheer them on, and a big thank you to coaches Mark Porter and JD Dierking!
LOVE OUR LIBRARY!
Patriot Page Turners Reading Contest
Library
This May will mark the second annual reading contest and book sale to benefit our school library. Activities will take place on the following dates:

May 6 will mark the launch of this years' reading contest appropriately named "The Patriot Page Turners." Gretchen Armer will announce the contest details soon.

May 10 and 17 The Parent Association will host bake sales "Baking for Books" to benefit the library.

May 9 and 10 we will host a gently used kids book sale to celebrate our month long focus on reading and our school library. This is an opportunity for spring cleaning! Books can be brought to the library from April 29 through May 9.

May 15, 16 and 17 is conference week and also time for our Scholastic Book Sale. This year, Sonoma's own Reader's Books will join our book sale and will offer our summer assigned reading books. Proceeds from books purchased on these dates benefit The Presentation School library.

May 24 will mark the end of the reading contest.
Good luck to all our readers!

Further Kudos to Grad Isabel Garon
Garon
A few weeks ago we caught up with Presentation grad Isabel Garon ('12) who was on Sonoma Valley High School's Mock Trial Team that came in 8th place in the State.  Since then, Isabel has competed in a county-wide math competition in Santa Rosa; been featured in the Sonoma Index-Tribune; and been named Student of the Week for her
freshman team.  Says her freshman team leader teacher:  "Isabel always goes out of her way to do what needs to be done, is a team player who adds a level of success, and is such a well-rounded student."  Way to go Isabel!
