San Francisco Opera Comes to Presentation
Last week our first and second graders enjoyed a private performance by a professional opera singer from the San Francisco Opera. Both grades participating in the "Sing-a-Story" program. The first grade participated in "The Magic Flute" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and for the second grade, it was "Das Rheingold" by Richard Wagner.
Ms. McArthur prepared our students ahead of time to sing a leitmotif and she familiarized them with the story. When Jennifer from the SF Opera arrived, she brought costumes and props and had the students interact in the opera, including lots of movement and singing. Each student was asked to come up and play a character in the opera and this was a real hit!

Presentation Welcome Artist in Residence Aaron Redner
Presentation is very pleased to announce that nationally touring professional musician Aaron Redner has joined our school as an Artist In Residence. Aaron will be teaching a "zero period" band class on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30 am to 8:10 am, in the library. This offering, for this year at least, will be free of charge to Presentation students. It is most appropriate for students in grades 3-8 with prior musical instruction on any instrument (exceptions permitted). This zero period band class will start THIS TUESDAY AT 7:30 am! Stop by and check it out. It is drop-in, no registration required at this time.
Aaron will likely also be available in the weeks to come for small group lessons during lunch recess one or two days a week and he will likely teach a middle school elective.
In addition, Aaron will be helping with our spring musical review, "California Here We Come." He will be helping Lynn McArthur to add an instrumental aspect to the vocal performances.
We are very pleased to welcome Aaron. Aaron has spent years studying classical violin, culminating in a master's degree in violin performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Currently he tours the country and the world performing with the band, Hot Buttered Rum.
Aaron can be best reached by email at aaronredner@gmail.com

Presentation Students Shine at County Science Fair
Congratulations to our Presentation 7th and 8th graders who represented the school at last week's Sonoma County Science Fair. The Synopsys-Sonoma County Science Fair gives grade 6-12 students the opportunity to study a topic of interest and apply their scientific knowledge to a real-life question.
Students completed a 3-sided presentation board and completed an interview with professional scientists. During the science fair, students also participated in labs presented by the Sonoma State Chemistry Club and played a round of Ultimate Frisbee. Our students were among over 100 students who were presenting their science fair projects. Local scientists, businesspeople, teachers, and others serve as judges and interact with students about their projects. Our students did terrifically well!
