Presentation Welcomes Exchange Student from Korea
Chanwi
Just after Christmas, break, Presentation School welcomed an exchange student from Korea to our 8th grade classroom.  Chanwi Yang will be joining us for two months.  She is on her summer vacation from her school and her family was eager for her to experience academic life in Sonoma.  If you see Chanwi around campus, please welcome her warmly. The 8th grade is really excited to have her join their classroom.  What a great opportunity for our children to interact with a peer from halfway around the world!
Please Join Us To Hear From Nine Leading Voices of Our Time on Teaching & Learning At Home and At School

Banner

Earlier this winter, more than 600 educators and parents, representing 125 private and public schools, joined nine exceptional leaders in education and psychology - Carol Dweck, Richard Gerver, Nikhil Goyal, Alfie Kohn, Steven Jones, Wendy Mogel, Ken Kay, Young Zhao and Sir Ken Robinson - to examine our shared commitment to the learning and lives of children in an ever-changing world.

Their panel discussion on transformative change in teaching and parenting practices to promote student engagement, develop character and community, and encourage deeper learning is now available as a two-part video presentation.  Please join us on Thursday, Jan. 31st and Thursday, Feb. 7th from 6:45pm to 9:00pm in the library for this extraordinary event.

Topics include:

        -- Identifying each child's potential

        -- Redefining excellence

        -- Cultural competency

-- Moving from a culture of "performance" to a culture

        "learning"

-- The growth mindset; how to motivate children

        -- The power of play

The event is free and open to the public so please share with your friends. Make it a "Date Night" and come together as a community to learn and reflect on these ideas and actions.  We ask only that you register in advance.  You will receive an Event Brite email with details.

There is so much information on education and parenting, and a vast array of reading options, yet most of us can't find the time to learn as much as we would like on these subjects. This video presentation offers the ultimate "cliff notes" for the nine leading voices of our time on education and child psychology.  Don't miss out on this one and only event!

Presentation Students Make The News
Gabby Ella
If you are a regular reader of the Sonoma Index Tribune, you will frequently come across news from our graduates.  Just this week, two of our grads were featured.  Gabby Mansour, class of 2011 was profiled in an article on her FFA success here.  And there was a feature story about Ella Krikorian, class of 2009, and her musical talents, which you can read here.

Library Gears Up for Author Visit
  Dashka
On Wednesday, January 30 at 9:30 a.m. in the Library, Dashka Slater will read from her new book and also act out the writing process with student volunteers... We'll get the inside scoop on what it took for her to take "Dangerously Ever After" from the seed of an idea to a full-fledged story... published! There will also be a Q&A with students (and parents) about the writing process and what it takes to be a successful children's book author.

Dashka will be signing books for sale from Readers' Books.  Check out the flyer here.  If you are interested in buying one of Dashka's books and having her sign it that day, please pre-order it here.
Sixth Grade Wows Entire School Community
with Egyptian Wax Museum
 Jack
Our 6th grade class of 30 students went all out in their costumes, research and scripts for their Egyptian Wax Museum presentation in the Activity Center on Friday.  Each student delivered a memorized speech, in character, as a famous Pharaoh and the audience left both entertained and educated.  Great job 6th graders!

THE THANK YOU BOX

Thank you to all of the parents, volunteers and visitors who remember to sign in and pick up a "visitor badge" when they come on campus.  Knowing who is on on school grounds at all times helps to keep our students safe.
