Grade 6 Goes Egyptian at the Rosicrucian Museum
Last week, our sixth grade travelled to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose as part of their curriculum dedicated to ancient Egyptian history. Egyptology is the study of ancient Egyptian history, language, religion, and art. Our students learned about the periods and dynasties in Egypt's history and about how the ancient Egyptians lived in the fact sheets. Their favorite part was the very realistic recreation of an Egyptian tomb.

Presentation Students Say Hooray for the New Lunch Tables
Our students are absolutely thrilled with the arrival of new indoor seating for lunch, just in time for the rainy season here in Sonoma. For the first time in our school's 15 years, we have adequate indoor seating that is easy to set up and store. What a blessing.
We would like to thank the school family that generously stepped up to make this possible. They know who they are! The school has a wish list of very specific items like this that Nancy Fischman can share with you if your family if interested in making a targeted donation.

Grades 3-5 Enjoy Math Festival at Lawrence Academy of Science
Our students in grades 3-5 went on a field trip last week to the Lawrence Hall of Science at U.C. Berkeley. Our students were treated to a mathematical trip around the world! Timeless games from many areas of the globe challenged our students' skills in using probability, logic, and strategy. From Native American Game Sticks to Lo-Shu Puzzles of China, students exercise their ability to focus and problem-solve - traits necessary for succeeding in math. Maps as well as historical information blend social studies and geography with mathematics.
Here is a first hand report from Isabella Cohen, 5th grader:
On November 28th the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders went to the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley. We looked at the Nano Technology exhibit and we went to a math festival. At the math festival we learned math based games from around the world. One of the 5th grade students said that it was really fun to go with the 3rd and 4th graders and that she really enjoyed playing all the math games. This field trip was very fun and we all wish that we are able to go there again!

Presentation School would like to extend a warm wlecome to a new school family: Thad and Tracy Geldert and their son Graysen, who joins us tomorrow in the 4th grade.
|
On Tuesday, December 4th at 8:30 AM, we will be gathering together in the library for a warm beverage, some chatting, and to get families signed up for the new Scrip program that was recently launched at our school. This is an amazing opportunity to raise significant funds for our school and everyone's participation is crucial to get this program up and running. We will have all the computers going and ready to sign people up.
There seems to be confusion between Scrip and eScrip, which are two different programs, and we will address that and all other questions as well. There is no charge to sign up for Scrip. Just bring your checkbook as you do need your bank account number and routing information. Grab a friend and head on in! Your support is greatly appreciated.

Presentation's Annual Holiday Home Tour, Lunch & Boutique December 14
This year's Holiday Home Tour houses sites are all on the East Side of Sonoma and they are a gorgeous mix of historical and contemporary houses.
Home tours begin at 10am and there are two luncheon seatings at 11:30am and 1:30pm at the Lodge on lower Broadway. The tour and catered lunch are $75. The Home Tour is chaired this year by Rosemary McNeely. Beth Reilly is overseeing the volunteer hostesses in the houses and Yalda Teranchi is organizing our drivers. We are very short on hostesses this year so please let us know if you can help. Thank you so much to these ladies for stepping up to organize the event. They all need volunteers so please email them directly or contact Nancy Bei in help out. Please let us know right away if you can help set-up the day before the event or work a shift on Friday.
Also plan to spend some time in our Christmas boutique where you will find a great selection of unique and well-priced gifts for young and old. Thank you to Lisa Dierking for chairing the Boutique. If you would like to help Lisa to set up or work the Boutique on Friday, please email her at lisadierking@gmail.com. We also need a Dad to help on Thursday during school hours when we set up the tree and arrange the displays.

Books, Books Books!
Thank you to the school families who showed up to shop last week at Reader's Books on the "Presentation" benefit night. They spent more than $750 dollars in two hours and several school families took that opportunity to buy books for our school library. Thank you to Lisa Dedmore for organizing!
Thank you also to Girl Scouts Troop #10127 which recently donated five great titles to our school library to show their appreciation for being able to meet in the library.
And a big thank you to the Sandoval family who has donated approximately 75 (!) titles to our school library. Take a moment after school one day to peruse the choices available to your child and perhaps you will find some exciting new ideas for books to read together.
