Parent's Association Update
The next meeting of Presentation's Parent's Association will be this Wednesday in the library from 8:30am - 9:15am. At our meeting, Greg Di Paolo from St. Leo's St. Vincent De Paul society will speak on what this organization does and how we can become more involved beyond our current Thanksgiving Food Drive.
Let us know about ways in which you would like to volunteer or simply learn more about us. The Presentation Parents Association is a great way to meet other parents, support our school and enrich our students.
Our Dad's Club had a sell-out crowd for their prime rib dinner at the Valley Wine Shack. The Crab Feed and Men's Poker Night are coming soon!
Our Speaker's Committee recently hosted a presentation on "Choosing A High School" and our Garden Committee raised over $200 with our first Bake Sale...and the next one is scheduled for Nov. 30.

Presentation Students Enjoy Gifted Workshop
Two of our fifth grade students, Elia Harb and Justine Broadman, recently attended the John Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Family Academic program at the Exploratorium. The program centered around senses and how our senses contribute to our understanding (and misunderstanding) of the world. Elia and Justine dissected a cow's eye and dove deep into the museum's interactive exhibits. To participate in future academic programs through CTY, you can learn more at www.jhucty.edu.

In honor of our upcoming winter dramatic production, all students are invited to enter the Christmas Shorts Story Contest. Students can submit a fictional story, poem or non-fiction piece of up to 1000 words in the school's first-ever Christmas Shorts contest. Entries are due on Nov. 26. Winning stories will run in the eNews and in the play program. A winner from k-2, 3-5, and 6-8 will be chosen. Submit entries to school office and see Mrs. Miller with any questions.
Tickets to the Christmas Shorts play, which will run the evenings of Dec. 6 and 7, are on sale now in the school office. Also, there is a sign up sheet in the office for volunteers and for some prop and costume items we are looking for. More than two dozen students are hard at work at rehearsing several times a week with Mrs. Miller. Mark your calendars to see this special holiday production.

Presentation Hosts Special Musical Performance on Campus
On Monday, November 19 from 3:30-4:15pm in the Activity Center, Presentation will be hosting an opportunity for your children to enjoy the Hot Buttered Music Show.
Join us and see local musicians and teachers Leta Davis, David Ross (drums and piano) and Chris Dupree (guitar) play and teach with Aaron Redner, the fiddle player from nationally known band Hot Buttered Rum. The music will range from folk rock to classical with string instruments, guitars and drums. In addition to playing, Aaron and Leta will talk briefly about learning an instrument and provide a brief teaching lesson on several instruments. Leta runs Sonoma's Green Light Orchestra which is always looking for students to join her community orchestra.
Aaron Redner has a degree in classical violin from the New England Conservatory and a minor in drama. He has taught at Crowden, the premier K-8 musical school in the West. In 2002, he played his first gig with the band Hot Buttered Rum ovr the past 8 years has seen every state in the US and traveled beyond as well. City by the Bay is his new solo recording but the tracks include sessions with bands like Tea Leaf Green, ALO, New Monsoon, Vinyl, The Waybacks, and Zero. The entire album was written by Aaron and his multiple influences are apparent with songs steeped in Folk/Rock, Bluegrass, Swing Jazz, and Classical Music.
On Friday, December 7 from 7:30am-8:20am in the library, there will be a follow-up mini-show and demonstration during which time students who have never taken instrument lessons as well as experienced students are encouraged to come and check out various instruments and to meet and ask questions of Aaron. For more information, email kirstennflaherty@gmail.com.

Grade 5 to Chabot Space Center

Last week our fifth grade enjoyed a fantastic all day field experience to the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland. A Smithsonian affiliate, Chabot is an educational science center whose mission is to educate students of all ages about Planet Earth and the Universe.
This 86,000 square foot center offers interactive space and science exhibitions, immersive digital-dome planetarium shows, and giant screen MegaDome shows. Chabot is also home to largest research-quality telescopes open to the public west of the Mississippi.
Our students had the chance to explore a number of exciting exhibitions including the state-of-the-art digital full-dome Planetarium and Megadome shows. Their favorite, part, however, was the simulated space missions in the Challenger Learnng Center.
The day was filled with looking an listening but also critical thinking, problem solving, communication, decision making and team building as the students served as a crew flying a simulated space mission.
