Presentation Admissions Season Underway
Last month, our Admissions team hosted a very successful cocktail party for prospective school families and 12 families showed up to learn more about Presentation. The next cocktail party is on January 24. If you would like to bring a friend who is interested in the school, please let us know at admissions@presentationschool.com
Our next Open House and Tour is this Wednesday, November 7 at 9 am. Please spread the word if you know anyone who would like to tour the school. Our next Shadow Day is Thursday, November 15. Interested families should contact the office to rsvp. These will be the first events at which our Student Ambassadors will help us to give tours and answer parents questions. Thank you to the many middle school students who applied and interviewed for the position.
Many of our grades now have waiting pools so if you know of people who are interested in applying to Presentation, it is important that they contact us as soon as possible. A fillable application form is available online here. It will also be crucial this year that current families pay attention to our winter re-enrollment deadlines.
Our application deadlines and more detailed information for current and potential school families is available here. If you have a pre-schooler and would be willing to help with outreach to your pre-school, please let us know.
We would like to thank our admissions committee of parent volunteers who have stepped forward to brainstorm admissions outreach ideas and to host events. If you are interested in helping out, please email admissions@presentationschool.com |

Grade 3 Creates Impressive Dioramas
Our third graders have just wrapped up a science unit on animal and plant biomes and spent time learning about the special designs and structures that animals and plants have that help them adapt and survive in their respective environments. After comparing and contrasting several biomes, students chose four biomes on which to conduct further research. Each student then chose one biome to recreate in a shoebox diorama. Parents were invited in to hear the students' formal presentations of their projects. Feel free to stop by the 3rd grade classroom to view these amazing creations!

Rock Climbing Team Starts Season with Strong
Showing in Santa Rosa Event
This past Saturday marked the first competition of the year for our climbing team.
The Crush-a-Thon was held in Santa Rosa at Vertex. Athletes competed against three other teams on both boulder and rope problems. Each team member climbed at least 10 different routes designed especially for this event.
Presentation was represented strongly by Layla and Sara McDermott, Wriley Robles, Owen Walthard and Sterling Macdonell. Coach Patrick Smithson said, "It was a strong showing by all. It was a great day for evaluating their skills and done so in a fun environment like Vertex." At the end of the day, our 7th grade boys had swept the competition!

Presentation Students VOTE!
Many classes have been and will be involved in election education projects. On Friday, the 8th grade students presented their research on the propositions that are on the California ballot, summarizing the main point, fiscal impact on the state and what it means for a "yes" or "no" vote. 5th grade, who study early American History, are looking at the three branches or government, and the role of the Electoral College in selecting a president. In 3rd grade, students will be running for office supported by parties that are composed of their peers. Student will perform an electoral college skit for their families on election day at 8:30 am.
The Primary Department is doing its annual election unit. The presidential elections adds to the excitement. Our youngsters have been using special election magazines from Scholastic that do a very good job of explaining the complicated idea of "What is a President?". What is an election? Our classrooms will vote with ballots, get "I voted" stickers and have a group meeting to chart our findings. We will be incorporating language arts, math and social studies. Our actual voting is a little different in scope. We are voting on what is your favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner. Is it turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce or pumpkin pie? We thought it would be more age appropriate and less controversial but you would be surprised at how seriously the students take the question!
All students in grades 3 - 8 will have the opportunity to vote for president during their recess time. The election process will be supervised by election judges Ms. Fischman, Mrs. Caselli and Mrs. Dusak. We will then compare how the students voted in comparison to the state and national results. Each voter will receive an "I Voted" sticker.

As in past years, The Presentation School will be participating in the Thanksgiving Food Drive sponsored by the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Leo's Parish. Each class will be asked to donate food items that would feed a family. Items include:
Gift card for a turkey
Bag of potatoes, onions
Stuffing mix
Cranberry sauce
Canned vegetables
Coffee/tea
Rolls
Canned fruit
Cookies
More information will be coming home shortly and we will begin collecting items the week of November 12. Thank you for your help.

The Presentation School Annual Fund is in full swing and we are eager to move toward our goal of 100% participation! To date, we have raised $32,377 and next week we will include a list thanking the families who have donated thus far. Any amount is appreciated and every contribution brings us closer to our goal of $80,000. Please contact Therese Nugent or Nancy Fischman if you have any questions. Checks can be dropped off at the school office anytime.

Kindergarten Enjoys Local Pumpkin Patch
The Kindergarten class traveled to the Adobe Pumpkin Farm in Petaluma last week and enjoyed walking through the beautiful flower garden and pumpkin patch, climbing the hay stack (pictured here), visiting the animals, going through the hay and corn maze and playing in the "jumpy!" Sarah commented, "I loved seeing all the different types of pumpkins and squash that grows here!" and Lukas, while climbing on a very old combine, said. "This is so cool!" We all left with a pumpkin and a fun coloring book.
