Happy Birthday RGHF! 11 October 2000. Now starting our 14th year of service to Rotarians.

Greetings from Cairo, Egypt

Every morning as I wear my rotary pins and it is the turn of our blue RGHF pin I ask myself the same question everyday "Why am I an RGHF member and why do I keep wearing the pin next to my Rotary pin on daily basis?"

May be it is because I am passionate about history and maybe because of the fellowship and its members and the fun we have together.

I think what is more important is our role as RGHF members at two parallel levels and two different timelines. One in the Past while another in the Present. As RGHF member it is our duty to start putting together the beginnings of our clubs and districts on our memory line on our History library section at  http://historylibrary.org . We also need to have a critical eye to realise which part of history we are living to document on our website. We live present history as changes and developments take place. For example during the month of August we had changes in our Rotary image as RI revealed the new website. Another historical event that we lived was the first Hangout meeting that RIP Ron Burton had with the new generation from young Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors.

These two most important roles are key as we need to go back to our history as we are requested to find answers that new members and non Rotarians ask, as we prepare our weekly newsletters or DG newsletters... we also need it to show case the reasons why anyone should be proud to be a Rotarian and how we have been supporting the advancement of Peace and Humanitarian Service throughout the last century till today.  While we focus on the past we also need to encourage our members to upload their club biography as well as their district biography if they know it before it gets lost on the memory of TIME.

Our second role as members is to walk the walk about RGHF and increase or membership as the more members we have the more histories we will have documented on our website and more we will have representations in clubs.

I would like to commend the Rotary clubs of Cyprus in district 2452 that were able to achieve the most number of memberships and had all their AGs as members which were awarded by a special RGHF pin. During our RGHF awards breakfast RIP Ron Burton pinned DGN Khalil Alsharif with this special pin.  RGHF would be please to have special pins for other districts that would achieve the same targets and successes of Cyprus in D2452.

As we are reaching the end of 2013 I am looking forward to receiving on our RGHF website the different histories of all our membership and would be more than proud to be distributing the Historian citation to all our members who will be attending our awards breakfast in Sydney or even mail it o their homes and clubs and districts.

I wish you all the best and I am looking forward to engaging with you on our discussions on My Rotary on Rotary International website as well as reading how you have been engaging rotary and changing lives.

Yours in Rotary Service

Warm regards

Burton and Nevine
