October 24th is World Polio Day. This year, India also celebrates this day as the Hindu festival of `Dussehra' which marks the victory of the Goddess Durga over demons; the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana; and the day when devotees worship the Goddess Shakti who represents strength, ability and courage.
I find this very symbolic. Citizens of India have shown remarkable strength, ability and courage to successfully continue to be free from Polio. The battle now continues to eradicate Polio from the remaining endemic countries. Rotary International has committed an additional US$75 million to help end Polio. The battle continues ...
