What Paul Harris Said, a feature of RGHF since December 2001.
Paul Harris
Paul P. Harris, Founder of Rotary 23 February 1905
October 2012 marks the 12 year of Rotary Global History Fellowship's effort to not only preserve the vast history of Rotary, but to make that history available 24/7 to anyone seeking that information. www.historysearch.org is our best method. We also offer a free service for anyone to post their own club or district history at www.historylibrary.org

Here's what Paul Harris wrote on that subject: "Those who have Rotary's interests at heart, trust that we may always continue to view it and its children, the other so-called service clubs, as contributions merely to social progress within our chosen sphere; that we may view ourselves and our work in proper perspective; that we may never become complacent; that we may stand ready to face adversity or prosperity, war or peace; that our thoughts may never become crystallized; that we may ever continue to grow. This is a changing world; we must be prepared to change with it. The story of Rotary will have to be written again and again." Paul P. Harris, 1935, page 253 "This Rotarian Age

History Day at RGHF, honoring the First 100 Clubs of Rotary

Paul Harris, Rotary's founder, moved to Jacksonville in 1892 and took a job in the marble and granite business with George W. Clark, a prominent local businessman. Harris returned north after one year, continued his education, and started Rotary 13 years later.

Clark must have made quite an impression on young Harris as he gained honorary membership in the young Chicago Rotary club for George Clark.

Seven years after the founding of Harris' Chicago club, a delegation was dispatched to organize a Jacksonville club. The Chicago club had been organizing clubs for just two years* at this point and were beginning to reach across the country. The only other Southern club up to 1912 was New Orleans.
