Womens & Childrens Refuge Garden Update
Guest article by Suellyn from the Refuge
Warmers Bay Community Garden group conducted a working bee at our women and children's refuge in 2012. Five beautiful garden beds were established. The gardens are a source of discovery for the children as they watch the plants grow and then pick the fresh produce. Opportunistic learning about sustainability and healthy eating happens as the weeding is done and most importantly the watering of the plants and often everyone around is completed. We have families from various cultures stay with us and we have been blessed with the planting of a range of herbs and vegetables that assist them with their cooking. The aromas of Thai and South African cooking entice all into the kitchen where everyone learns from each other about a range of ways to use our fresh goodies. A big thank you to all involved in setting up our gardens and for the ongoing seedlings provided to us. - Suellyn
