iipp ProgramsThe OSHA Training Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is spotlighting upcoming occupational safety and health courses designed to draw attention to hazards associated with OSHA's most frequently cited standards. Fall Protection in Three Steps:
Plan, Provide, Train

Falls are the leading cause of death in the construction industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries in 2012, falls to a lower level accounted for 544 construction fatalities. Preliminary OSHA reports for January, 2014, show numerous fatalities from falls, including a Clinton, Iowa, Wal-Mart worker who fell from a ladder, an iron worker in Seattle who fell from a scaffold, and   two Montgomery, Alabama, bridge workers who fell from an aerial platform.

Now more than ever it is essential for employers with personnel who work at heights or near ground or wall openings to provide comprehensive fall protection. Last year 8,241 fall protection citations were issued by OSHA, placing fall protection at #1 on OSHA's 2013 Top 10 list of the most cited violations for the second year in a row.
