Pamela Anderson

SAGE Program participant Pamela Anderson flourished in the real estate field for 22 years while her husband Dick worked as a master plumber. Life was good. In 2002, real estate sales came to a screeching halt and Pamela took a full-time housekeeping job to help supplement the income she no longer made selling real estate. Then in 2003, Pamela's husband hurt his back and couldn't work. After doing some serious soul searching, Pamela offered a suggestion to Dick that forever changed their lives. Read Pamela's story HERE

LETCLETC Sponsors Career Search Seminar - Teaching Job Seekers a Structured, Project Management Approach to Career Search.
Nationally recognized Career Coach, Chris Czarnik, of Coach Inc. presented to a room packed with dislocated workers an interactive and informative seminar to aid them in their job search. This session was sponsored by LETC's WIA Dislocated Worker Program, and held at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center in Stevens Point on March 15th.
Czarnik is deeply passionate about career search. After serving in Operations and HR roles in both large and small companies, he was trained as a professional career advisor in a national career search firm. Over the next five years he served as an advisor to more than 200 professional clients, and was honored by that national firm as an outstanding advisor in 2005.
The seminar offered a 'fresh' approach to job searching and focused on delivering real life, straight forward information on career search that educated job seekers on the hiring process from "the other side of the desk".

NCWWDB's Goal: Be a One-Stop Source for LaborBruce
Market Data - One of the "products" that NCWWDB provides employers is labor market data. One source we use for this information is a software called Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI) to prepare reports on a variety of market scenarios.
EMSI reports have been used in the media when a new business is coming to our Workforce Development Area, or when one is closing, to review the economic impact of the gain or loss. The same reports have been utilized by economic development professionals in presentations to local, state, and national governmental committees.
Occupational reports are a requested component of the EMSI software that NCWWDB frequently receives. These reports provide detailed information on specific jobs/positions, from average age to educational attainment within a specific region and for a specific occupation. Employers are interested in this data as they look at their wage and benefit structure within their organization and the surrounding area. Reports can be customized to include one county, a region, or the entire state. Read entire article HEREBack to top

Ali Konkel Career Spotlight: Truck Driver - Over the next threeAli months we will be taking a closer look at occupations in
the transportation industry. The transportation and warehousing industry employs over 10,000 people in the North Central region and is projected to see 15% growth over the next five years. Nearly 50% of those employed in the industry work as heavy and tractor trailer truck drivers.
Truck drivers are critical to nearly every industry in the region and the demand for drivers in the North Central region is projected to outpace state and national growth. Check out this month's Occupation Profile to find out more about truck drivers. Back to top

DEI Program Did You Know bannerDid You Know: The U.S. Department of Labor launched an onlineDEI Workplace Flexibility Toolkit - This toolkit provide employees, job seekers, employers, policymakers, and researchers with information, resources, and a unique approach to workplace flexibility.
Workplace flexibility policies and practices typically focus on when and where work is done. The toolkit adds a new dimension - an emphasis on flexibility around job tasks and what work is done. Click HERE to gain access to the toolkit.
Funded by the department's Office of Disability Employment Policy in partnership with the department's Women's Bureau, the toolkit makes more than 170 resources easily accessible, particularly for workers and job seekers with complex employment situations, such as parents of young children, single parents, family caregivers, mature workers, at-risk youth,
ex-offenders, and individuals with disabilities, including veterans with disabilities and people with HIV/AIDS. Read full article HERE

Diane Weiler SAGE Grant Extended! - The SAGE (Sector Alliance forSAGE the Green Economy) grant has been extended through May 31, 2013. This extension will allow apprentices or journey workers eligible to enroll or currently enrolled in the grant to continue accessing training and work-related reimbursement funds.
Only a few Workforce Boards across the state have agreed to continue operating the SAGE grant; NCWWDB being one of them because of the grant's huge success. The original grant goal was to provide 72 apprentices and journey workers assistance with training and support. To date, the grant has provided training and support for 83 apprentices or journey workers. The participants have come from a wide variety of fields including dairy graziers, construction electricians, electric metering technicians, welder/fabricators, steamfitters, plumbers, operating engineers, sheet metal workers, roofers and waterproofers, millwrights, laborers, and carpenters.
