Jamie Kizer officially became a dislocated worker when he was permanently laid off from the truck dealership he worked at. During a stressful and uncertain time, this married father of two teenagers soon realized that post-secondary education was the best way to be successful in a tightening and competitive labor market. Jamie turned to the WIA Dislocated Worker Program for help and met with LETC's WIA Employment and Training Specialist, John Peters to discuss his options. Read Jamie's story HERE.

The Marshfield Job Center Finds New Home -
following an agreement to relocate the center from City Hall Plaza to the United Way office at 156 South Central Avenue.
After receiving drastic cuts in funding for the Job Center, the city worked with the United Way, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, and the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board to keep the center open.
On-site resources include Internet access, and resume writing and job search computers. Because of funding issues, hours of operation have been cut back from four to three days per week. The new hours of operation are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The new phone number to reach the Job Center is 715-321-1011. Marshfield's Job Center reopened in its new location on Jan 7th. Back to top

WDA 6 Labor Trends - 2012 Quarter 4 - Looking Back and Looking ForwardBy: Tom Walsh, DWD, North Central WI Regional Economist 2012 was certainly an eventful year for Wisconsinites. We were way over exposed to political ads. The Badgers broke our hearts in the Rose Bowl then shocked us with an unexpected conference championship. The Brewers kept us interested to the end of the season. The Packers followed a disappointing playoff loss with an injury riddled but successful regular season (12-4 11-5). Personally, I ended the year with a new job in a new city.
Among all the excitement, 2012's economic growth is best described as lethargic. The nation, state, and region continued to plod along through a slow economic recovery. But, to be fair, the economy did continue to recover. This article begins by breaking down the recovery and highlights some positive indicators that are cause for guarded optimism in 2013.
Slow Recovery - The United States entered the "Great Recession" in December 2007. The Recession officially ended in June 2009, but subsequent growth in national gross domestic product (GDP) has been slow. Read entire article HERE. Back to top

NCWWDB Offers Employers Variety of Services
NCWWDB's Employer Services division offers two services that have been generating a lot of activity recently. One service, called Wanted Analytics, is software that aggregates job openings from a variety of job posting websites. The other, Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI), is software designed to do exactly what the name implies.
Wanted Analytics is used regularly by NCWWDB's Research and Planning Specialist, Ali Konkel. Ali uses it to provide case managers with the most recent county-wide job postings on the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development's Job Center of Wisconsin website and as well as other web-based, job posting locations.
NCWWDB uses the EMSI software to provide industry and occupation data in our nine-county Workforce Development Area to employers, economic development agencies, and local governmental agencies. EMSI has proven to be a great compliment to our partners at the Department of Workforce Development Office of Economic Advisors. Read the entire article HERE. Back to top

Did You Know: On Jan. 3, Obama signed into law the American Tax Payer Relief Act of 2012? - This authorizes an extension of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program until December 31, 2013.
The law also continues authorization of all veteran target groups (including those implemented under the VOW to Hire Heroes Act) and retroactively reauthorizes all WOTC non-veteran target groups, including individuals with disabilities.
The Employment and Training Administration (ETA) will be issuing forthcoming guidance on the new legislation. Interim instructions have been provided to State Workforce Agencies regarding the processing of WOTC applications. For more information click HERE. Back to top |
