About the Douglas Ave Underpass Project

The WDDC was recently awarded a grant from the Knight Foundation through the Wichita Community Foundation in order to derive design concepts that will revitalize the historic Douglas Avenue underpass from its current status into an inviting Downtown gateway. This grant has allowed the WDDC to hire LawKingdon Architecture to lead the design team to help in the first phase of the project. The first public input meeting garnered great ideas and perspectives. During this process, the community will continue to be engaged and provide feedback. 

The community is invited to a public meeting to view and provide input on preliminary schematic design concepts for the historic Douglas Avenue underpass. This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts and have an impact on the design of this key connector in Downtown Wichita.

This is the second public input meeting for this planning and design process. Design concepts presented by LawKingdon will encompass pigeon control, public safety, color and material choices, pedestrian and vehicular traffic, as well as the incorporation of art and technology. Plans look at both design detail as well as the larger contextual relationship that the underpass has towards this emerging area. Make plans to attend and share your thoughts!
