Tallgrass Film Festival
October 18 - 21
Location: Various venues in and around Downtown
The 10th Annual Tallgrass Film Festival showcases more than 120 films from around the world and is the largest independent film festival in the state of Kansas. The four-day event has become a hallmark of the city's cultural landscape and the festival is internationally renowned for its world-class cinematic programming.
Tallgrass Film Festival strives to serve as a venue and a voice for independent films and filmmakers, spotlighting films that would otherwise not have a proper theatrical screening in the region. Every year, filmmakers from around the country and the world are invited to Wichita to participate in the festival, which is packed with educational panels, legendary parties and - renowned in the indie filmmaking community - an accessable audience with a voracious appetite for independent films.
This year there are over 180 official selections with 140 short films, 91 total screenings, 50 feature films, 34 visiting filmmakers (plus many more local filmmakers!), 30 different countries and territories, 4 galas, 2 world premiers, and 1 U.S. premiere. More info

LOVE, WICHITA's fourth monthly window display at the northeast corner of Douglas and St. Francis was revealed Friday, October 5th. It was created to promote Tallgrass Film Festival's new "Jake Euker Stubbornly Independent" award presentation and gala ceremony at the Orpheum Theater, hosted by Steve Anderson, with entertainment by Antimosity and an afterparty to follow. Admission is $20. The window, directed by Seth Blume, features 5 screens showing trailers from the films up for the "Stubbornly Independent" award alongside the festival's 10th anniversary "X" artwork landing in the center of a field of 350 corn stalks at sunset. The window is sponsored by Stor-All, Baseline Creative, CrateTech, Bluebird Arthouse, Mittlestadt Props and Design and A&B Tire. It's advised to see it at night for the full effect. NEED MONEY FOR AN ART PROJECT?
|
|
WeMakeArtHappen.com is based on micro-giving, also called micro-funding or crowd-sourcing. It's basically this: You need $20,000 for an art project but you don't know anyone with pockets that deep. So, instead of asking one person or maxing out your credit cards, you put your project details on this web site. Now you can ask 2,000 people, 20,000 people, 200,000 people or more who believe in what you're doing to collaborate with you by donating small gifts toward your project.
To get involved, all you have to do is submit a short pitch of your project idea to our team, create the categories and rewards for different levels of "collaborators" and once your project is posted it's up to you to generate buzz and awareness. Tell everyone you know. Post social media messages until your fingers are raw. Scream from the top of your house. Market yourself. Do whatever you have to do to draw people to your project page. We're about community building here, about sparking change and helping ideas spread. More info
