The Importance of Monitoring Your Dog's Urination

Familiarizing yourself with your dog's urination may not be the most glamorous part of pet ownership, but it is very important for your dog's healthcare. Abnormalities in urination and obvious changes such as frequent urination of very small amounts, foul odor, straining while urinating, etc. could indicate a serious health concern.

One common abnormality often overlooked in older pets is the discharge of inappropriately large amount of urine that is atypically dilute (light or clear color). The medical term for this is polyuria. Polyuria occurs when the body's normal ability to conserve water for itself goes awry. Conditions causing polyuria include subtle, long-term changes in hormone balance as well as more serious problems (kidney disease, diabetes, urinary tract infection, certain cancers, etc.), and should be investigated by your veterinarian as soon as the symptom is recognized.  Urine home-tests will provide valuable information and early detection will improve both the cost and the outcome of treatment options.

Access Animal Wellness offers urine home-tests and collection tools to help dog owners monitor their pet's urination.  The P-Scoop™, a newly launched device, enables a very easy and clean sample collection method, especially for small dogs. Click here for more information!

The event is being held from 7pm to 9pm and guests are asked to bring their leashed dogs to join in on the fun.  For more information about the event contact Doggie U at (631) 968-7972 or by email at DoggieUK9Academy@aol.com
