Warm Welcome to Pastor Carl Johnson
We welcome Pastor Carl Johnson and are incredibly thankful for his spiritual leadership during the transition until the interim pastors arrive in June. We are grateful for his experience, wisdom, and presence here at Immanuel. He is motivated and dedicated to Immanuel's continued growth and vitality. We are so thankful that he is willing and able to serve Christ church.
Contact information for Pastor Carl Johnson:847-946-2206 (cell) or email: dcjohnson@wi.rr.com. Pastor Carl will lead worship at Immanuel on Sundays and will be available at church on Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Feel free to call or email Pastor Carl with any pastoral needs or call the church and the message will be relayed to him.
A Brief History of the New Pastoral Face
Many of you have met me these past few months, and I have enjoyed our connections. But I want to tell you a bit more about me and my family.
I grew up in Davenport, IA. My parents were unchurched, but sent me to a Lutheran Sunday School when I was eight. That has made all the difference for me. In college I met my wife, Donna, and attended The Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. We spent a summer in Brownsville, TX where I led a small congregation and did door-to-door canvassing for the Board of American Missions. Forward to an internship in Albany, NY before my senior seminary year. We welcomed a daughter, Bethany, and a son, Matthew, during my first call. My ministry involved calls in Illinois, Ohio, and special ministries in Chicago and Nevada. We moved to Kenosha where I have been an interim and supply pastor, also working with a number of congregations in evangelism. It is good to be among you! Carl L. Johnson
Pastor Phil Neimeyer to Support
Pastor Phil Neimeyer is a familiar face here at Immanuel and will also help with pastoral requests. Pastor Phil has preached at Immanuel, conducted weddings and funerals, and has been involved with the Connections Team, linking visitors and members as they come into our Immanuel family. His heart for Immanuel and passion for God is huge. We appreciate his willingness to assist with any needs of the church.
Pastoral Update
Steve Kottke, assistant to the bishop, has told the council our first long-term interim pastor, Pastor Martha Butzier, will begin at Immanuel on June 1st. Our second interim pastor, Pastor Rich Collier, will arrive on June 15th. We will keep the congregation updated as things progress.
Contact Information for the Church Council
The church council and staff are eager to oversee and serve Immanuel during the call process. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us for prayer needs, spiritual guidance, help, information about the call process, and fellowship. We pledge to work hard with you and for you in the days ahead. We also promise to keep you well informed as we receive information. In addition to electronic communication, the following information will be available on the card table in the office: New Church Directories; Minutes of Council Meetings; Monthly Financial Statements. Ask Brenda for extra copies if what you are looking for is not there
Bells of Immanuel: Rehearse Sundays, 9:15-10:15 AM
Rehearsals are Sundays in the music room downstairs from 9:15AM-10:15AM. The bells have a special anthem planned for Pentecost, May 15th! No musical training is necessary! Director Ellen Hanson leads the group-and will train you and highlight your music parts. Consider joining this ministry of 4 generations! Contact Ellen at ellen.hanson@aurora.org
Praise Team: Rehearses Wednesdays, 8:00 PM
Praise Team rehearses at 8:00PM on Wednesdays. Participants vibrantly lead contemporary worship songs each week at 9:45 & 11:07. We are incredibly grateful for their fabulous leadership and dedication! Attendance at rehearsals is required. Contact John Ivan at music@immanuellg.org if you are interested in participating.
Assistance with Parking on Sundays
Assistance with parking is available on Sunday mornings. Inquire at the Welcome Center if valet parking would help you, and we will add you to the schedule.
Welcome Center Volunteers
Do you like to meet people? We are looking for some fun people to be on the Welcoming Team. They set up coffee and water in the Welcome Center, greet and help connect visitors to members between services. Visitors to Immanuel always comment on how welcoming Immanuel is. We are incredibly grateful for your help! Contact Edith Draper at 248-1861 with any questions.

We thank God for her amazing, visionary leadership that has made Little Sprouts such a thriving ministry with children.

Our cooks whipped up wonderful meals of BBQ beef sandwiches, homemade soups, cheesy potato ham casserole, and Shepard's pie. Not to forget all the awesome desserts provided by Immanuel Bakers. April saw a new monthly tradition start for our guests. A slice of a Birthday Cake is served to guests who have a birthday during the month. Of course we sing Happy Birthday to them.
Remember all monthly community meals are free to those who might be hungry, lonely or need fellowship. This ministry is made possible by the generosity of your Immanuel family. Want to get involved? If you have a relative or friend who could benefit from this class, they are also welcome. Members of Immanuel will be given first priority. Join our Sunday Morning Coffee - Fellowship Hour Team(s)
Many of you have enjoyed our fellowship hour between the first and second services. Lutherans are renowned for socializing - by providing coffee, wonderful treats, and time to get to know new members and reconnect with others.
We especially need teams to organize and contribute to this valuable ministry on the alternating third Sunday of the month starting in 2016 (May/July/Sept/Nov) and on the 5th Sundays (May/July/Oct).
Please prayerfully consider coming on board. The most effective team consists of a 4-member minimum. Please also be aware that we have monies set aside to reimburse the costs of coffee, juice and treats. Team members are not expected to bake treats! They can be purchased instead, and all costs are reimbursed. Contact Evie Schulz to let her know of your interest in assisting on one of these two teams.

THANKS
+ A special thank you goes out to all of our Sunday School singers who blessed us with their beautiful singing voices this week. Another big thank you goes out to Kelly Gerlitz and Adam Smith for leading all of our children in song.
+ Dear Ones, On April 10th, our congregation came together to celebrate the awe inspiring careers of Pastors MaryAnn and Mark. That day was a true testament to the incredible work they have done in our Lord's name! The day started with a rousing worship service at which the energy was absolutely phenomenal! The vast turnout was a reflection of the amount of lives our beloved pastors had touched! After our service we were treated with an amazing array of sweets and time for fellowship. The day then went on to a beautifully planned party at Horticultural Hall. Upon entering people were delighted with the lively music, a delicious feast, and a full blown candy buffet. Pastors MaryAnn and Mark leave behind a legacy and a mark on us all, which was truly celebrated on that day. From the depths of our hearts we thank all those involved in helping us to celebrate our beloved pastors! And a special thank you goes out to the planning committee that orchestrated this fantastic event!
+ Our Mid-Week Lenten series was phenomenal! It was amazing to watch the participation and energy at each service! Each night was started with a wonderful time for fellowship while sharing a delicious meal. We then were given the opportunity to listen to the inspiring presentations prepared for us. A special thanks goes to our riveting presenters: Ardith and Jim Drescher, Frank Guske, Jill Rosenthal, Bev and John Erickson, Doug Bartz, and Loren Johnson. Another thank you goes to all of those who organized our fantastic meals: Hawk and Karen Taylor, Shari and Spark Lundberg, and Linda Burkhardt. And thank you to all involved who were not mentioned here.
+ Thanks to Mark and Rebecca McAuliffe for organizing another amazing concert of William Smith Jr and The Renewed Voices for Christ! We had a packed house, all who thoroughly enjoyed the lively, inspiring music. Thanks to all our other helpers who made the weekend so special!
+ Thanks to the Bells of Immanuel and Mindy Ehlen on flute for offering a beautiful Call to Worship to Ash Wednesday service! It was a lovely version of "Just As I Am" that prepared our hearts to hear the Ash Wednesday message.
+ Thanks to Immanuel's Choral Ensemble for singing the special anthem "Lost in Wonder, Love and Praise" during Ash Wednesday worship. The foreboding text reminded us of the Lenten journey and our immortality. Thanks to Kathy Middleton for accompanying the ensemble.
+ Special thanks to Bobbi Gutman for her tender, resonant version of "Lead Me, Guide Me" offered on February 28th. We LOVE her voice and are gifted each time she sings.
+ Special thanks to Charlie Brown, Greg Bunge, Doug Ehlert, and Liz Ehlert for playing a brass and timpani fanfare at all three Palm Sunday services. The piece, "March for Three Trumpets & Timpani" was a majestic and regal musical representation of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
+ Thanks to the Bells of Immanuel and director Ellen Hanson for their special bell addition on Palm Sunday. They accompanied two songs on bells that added a celebratory and specialness to the start of Holy Week. Thanks to the participants who arrived early and stayed all morning to share their gifts!
+ Thanks to the choral ensemble for beautifully singing the Lord's Prayer on Maundy Thursday. The rich textured melody together with the sacred words captured the mood of the day. Many thanks to the singers for participating during an already VERY busy week.
+ Huge thanks to Jaime Ivan and Andy Wyosnick for singing a powerful, dynamic version of "Via Dolorosa" on Good Friday! The talent at Immanuel is astounding; they are two fine examples of that! If you missed the duet, we will be sharing a video soon.
+ I can't tell you how FABULOUS the cantata "EXTRAVAGANT LOVE!" was on Easter Sunday! The presentations were inspirational, remarkable, and lauded! Words cannot adequately define how stirring the music was and the way it touched those who heard it! It was breath-taking-in all its majesty-and was perhaps the best cantata at Immanuel! I couldn't be more pleased with your dedication and commitment, it certainly showed. To each and every participant: it wouldn't have been the same without YOU! Each one of you added the perfect component to the complete sound. The combined sounds of the ensemble were astounding! I cherish your unique talents and thank God for the opportunity to share our gifts together. Thanks to ALL for presenting at three services, for extra rehearsals, and giving your time and talents throughout Lent and Holy Week. Special thanks to Rick Ruby for his tiring behind-the-scenes work with the sound! Thanks to Michael Ruby for his hard work moving equipment, stands, chairs, etc. Thanks to Pastor Mary Ann for eloquently speaking the Passion into our hearts and uniting music with spoken word. John Ivan
+ Thanks to ALL musicians for their energetic, lively, passionate, and celebratory music on April 10th-pastor Mary Ann and Mark's last Sunday. Several musicians played at all three services to honor the pastors by using their exceptional talents. Thanks, thanks, thanks for sending Mary Ann and Mark off with a bang!
+ I would like to thank you for the Easter plant. It is very pretty & colorful. When it is time to plant it in my flower garden, I'll do that. It is a good remembrance. Sincerely, Marie Hinzpeter and family.
+ Thank you to Spark Lundberg for repairing the chairs here at church. We truly appreciate all you do for us!
+ Dear congregation, Thank you for the beautiful plant. Hope it inspires the spring weather. Many thanks! Pat Owen
+ Many thanks to Mike Brooks for cutting our church lawn faithfully, even when it sprinkles. We appreciate your continued efforts to make the church look beautiful.
+ A big thank you to the Badger High FFA & Master Gardener, Susan Hughes for preparing the gardens of Immanuel Lutheran Church for the Just For Kids summer program during "Day of Service". FFA students: Amanda Shea, Levi Speckman, Tyler Love, Callee Gilfoy, Paige Ludkte
+ High School Ministry - We would like to thank all of those that were involved with the Spaghetti Dinner and Auction preparation. We would like to thank everyone that brought in desserts and donated auction items. A big thank you to Chad Bittner for donating the food for the event!
