Welcome Our New Middle School Youth Director, Zach Ortiz

We have grand and glorious good news!  God has answered our prayers for a new Middle School Youth Director with our selection of Zachary Ortiz.  After five good interviews with candidates, all of whom are members of Immanuel, our interview team selected Zach. He is the son in law of Elise and George Zimmerman, and husband of Lydia.  Zach and Lydia have a 15 month old daughter, Annabelle, who is so precious, and he also has a 7 year old daughter Keegan.

Zach currently works at Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, Illinois.  He is an EMT, and currently works as a Specialist and Tech for the hospital.  He is a student at McHenry County College pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.  Zach is Co-Founder, Treasurer and Director of Fundraising for "Rationale" - a non-profit that funds food security, and a secondary education program for Northern Uganda Orphanage.  He has planned and initiated several successful fundraising events for the organization.

Zach is also a Volunteer Event Coordinator for Invisible Children.  His job with that non-profit is educating and coordinating volunteers for fundraisers and awareness events for impoverished North African countries.

Zach loves working with kids, is energetic, warm, enthusiastic, organized, has superb skills in technology, and is gifted in fundraising.  He is a high energy guy with a truly compassionate heart for children and teens.

Please join us in welcoming Zach as our Middle School Youth Director! He will be leading our new Middle School After School Ministry, "The Vibe" which launches this fall. Zach will also lead our Wednesday night Middle School Youth Group and our Sunday morning confirmation ministry.

The Vibe

The Vibe, our new community outreach to create a safe haven for middle school students, is taking shape!  It will launch this fall, Monday through Thursday afternoons, from 3:00-6:00 PM in the lower level.  We have two outstanding teams working on this ministry.

The Vibe Art Tribe is designing artwork and decorations for the lower level to be a space where middle and high school students want to hang out.  We need more artistic folks to join the team - especially throughout August as we complete the space. Come and have a blast transforming the lower level into a haven for teens! The next Vibe Art Tribe meeting is Mon., Aug. 11 at 5:30 pm.

Volunteers needed to staff The Vibe:

We are seeking adults and teens who really like middle school kids, are eager to hang out with them, and who have any of the following kinds of interests or skills. This is not an exhaustive list!  Use your imagination, and read between the lines.

We also need adults with organizational skills who could create the monthly schedule of volunteers; maintain our check in/out website; do shopping for supplies, materials, and food needed in the program (paid for by Immanuel!); folks to run the snack bar and keep it stocked for each day; playing table games and board games with kids, tutoring/mentoring kids with homework, etc!!!!

+ Thank you to all volunteers who have helped with the landscaping and weed pulling. The church is taking shape outside, thanks to you all!

+Thanks to Hawk and Karen Taylor for watering plants outside, an important part of the landscaping plan.

+ Thank you to Matt Knopp for painting the closets in the welcome area & fellowship hall as we continue adding finishing touches to our facility.

+ We were SO inspired by Mitchell Barnett during his special music offering on July 13th at all three services! His talent was exquisite as he sang and play guitar to the lovely song "Lord, I Need You"! A Big THANKS for sharing your gifts with us!

+ A gigantic thank you to our community of faith for supporting us on our partnership mission trip with Sion Lutheran in Bayamon, Puerto Rico in June! With your help, 31 youth and 9 adults were able to build the foundation with our partners in Christ. Special thanks to all who had yard work or jobs for our youth to do. Your donations to the trip are priceless. Thank you to Chad and Amy Bittner for the delicious "last supper" before we left. It was scrumptious! Thank you to the Danno family for donating the cost of shipping 45 boxes of clothes that you so generously donated. Thank you to all who supported our fundraisers and donated to them! We are so blessed by your generosity. Most importantly, thank you for your prayers. We had a medically uneventful trip! Yay! We are excited to see what God has planned for our partnership with Sion and the people of Puerto Rico. Watch for details on next year's mission trip....helping somewhere I the US with the ELCA disaster team. The plan would be to go to Puerto Rico the summer of 2016. If your work or vacation plans take you to Puerto Rico, please go visit our friends. They will welcome you with open arms as they did us. Thank you, again, for your kindness! You are loved!

Sincerely, Cynthia Hibbard and Rich McWherter
