New Building Update
On April 28, 2013, a special congregational meeting was held to approve the final building design and finance plan. The vote for the design was 253 yes, 2 no. The tally for the finance plan was 252 yes, 3 no. We are grateful for the confidence and trust the congregation has shown for the work of the appeal team, the building team, and the finance team. On the basis of these votes, the congregation was approved for a loan of $2,700,000.00 from the Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA. This is a five year note at 4.125%.
On May 1, 2013, over 250 members and friends gathered for food, fellowship, and a ground breaking celebration at the site of our new building. God blessed us with a perfect warm and sunny afternoon. Many thanks to the Drapers for coordinating the food, the Ruby's for cooking hot dogs and bratwurst, and for everyone who brought a dish to pass. Everyone had a chance to shovel dirt on ground we claimed as holy. We place sticks in the ground to remind us where God has planted us and to challenge us to welcome others to our new church building. While Pastor Mary Ann was in the hospital, she was able to view the entire event on her cell phone (thanks to Jeri Gaugert).
You can watch an amazing video of the ground breaking, produced by John Ivan here.
