The Berkeley Carroll
Film Series presents
IVORY TOWER

Save the date: Wednesday
November 19, 2014 @ 7:00 pm
181 Lincoln Place, Performance Space

Including Q&A after the film with the filmmakers and BC parents Andrew Rossi (director) and Kate Novack (producer). They will be joined in conversation with BC parent Nancy Rosenthal (Nurse Nancy) and BC Alum Chandler Rosenthal (BC 2010, Yale 2014).

As tuition rates spiral beyond reach and student loan debt passes $1 trillion (more than credit card debt), IVORY TOWER asks: Is college worth the cost? From the halls of Harvard, to public colleges in financial crisis, to Silicon Valley, filmmaker Andrew Rossi (PAGE ONE: INSIDE THE NEW YORK TIMES) assembles an urgent portrait

of a great American institution at the breaking point.
Through profiles at Arizona State, Cooper Union, and San Jose State -among several others-IVORY TOWER reveals how colleges in the United States, long regarded as leaders in higher education, came to embrace a business model that often promotes expansion over quality learning. But along the way we also find unique programs, from
Stanford to the free desert school Deep Springs to the historically black all women's college Spelman, where the potential for life-changing college experiences endure. Ultimately, IVORY TOWER asks, what price will society pay if higher education cannot revolutionize college as
we know it and evolve a sustainable economic model?

Greetings Berkeley Carroll Family,

The Diversity Committee next meeting is taking place on November 20th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 181 Lincoln Place in the Middle and Upper School Cafeteria. We would absolutely love to have you, your ideas, and your many different experiences in attendance for these upcoming events.  So please come out and join us.

Diversity is an extremely important aspect of life New York City and life at Berkeley Carroll.  It is as multifaceted as there are individuals.  We welcome those diverse thoughts and attitudes, as we hope to bridge some gaps and create some new ways of thinking for the future. So, please join us as we learn, grow, and work towards a better and all inclusive world, where everyone is accepted just as they are.

We will cover a few things during this meeting.  We will discuss some matters of "Family Fiesta", which will be here before we know it.  But, we also would like to get ideas about what we can do, as parents, for the upcoming "Programming Year".

To reiterate, these are the dates and times that have been finalized thus far, below.

UPCOMING DIVERSITY MEETING
  • Thursday, November 20th 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Middle and Upper School Cafeteria; 181 Lincoln Place
Please join us and help this committee be all that it can be for everyone.

Sincerely,

Jason Hayes

Diversity Committee, Chair
