BBQ Days Are Here Again

Let barbecue season commence! Please join us at noon this Saturday to continue an eight year tradition of burgers, conversation, and aviation camaraderie.  This fun occurs on the third Saturday of each month at noon.

We are very excited to partner with our new airport restaurant, The Flight Deck, to present this month's barbecue.  Please join Monadnock Aviation and The Flight Deck this Saturday at noon.

For next month, June 18th, we partner with the  Monadnock Humane Society on their 28th Annual Walk for Animals for the barbecue.  Bring your pet, have hot dogs, listen to music and enjoy the walk and fundraiser.
The Flight Deck

The words I am about to write have been long anticipated.  Here it is folks. The Flight Deck is now open for business!  (Feels great to write that.)

Keene has a new airport restaurant and the food is terrific! Soup, chili, salads, chicken, steaks, sandwiches, pancakes, make your own sundae bar-- it is all here.

The Flight Deck is in the main terminal, beside Monadnock Aviation and will serve breakfast until 4PM on weekends.  Please tell your friends and come out for a meal. Here is their menu.

Hours:

Friday 11AM-9PM

PPL Ground School

Last call for our spring session of Private Pilot Ground School.  The class meets Tuesday evenings 6:00PM-8:00PM for 12 weeks and culminates with a practice FAA Written Exam.  The cost is $250 plus materials.

Whether you are a student pilot, rusty pilot, or non-flying aviation enthusiast, this class is for you. Please email me if you'd like more information or to be added to the roster.
Aerobatic Practice

The New England Aerobatic Club will hold a practice session at Keene, weather permitting, on May 28th.  Their practice box is in the southwest quadrant of the airport 1500'MSL to 5000' MSL.  The NOTAMs will reflect, depending on winds, right traffic for runway 02 or right traffic for runway 32 during the aerobatic activity.  In addition, expect no touch-and-go landings and no practice low approaches on runway 02 during the aerobatic activity.

Student Pilot Social

Making the decision to begin flight training can be overwhelming.  Then sticking with flight training when it feels like you'll never be able to land the plane or master the maneuvers is daunting.  Monadnock Aviation believes that having a support network in your flight school, other certificated pilots, and student pilots is critical to staying motivated.

Please join other student pilots, new private pilots, and flight instructors at Monadnock Aviation on Monday, June 20th, at 6:00PM for a Student Pilot Social.

Ask questions, eat pizza, participate in fun activities and witness a very cool demonstration of Oculus Rift in flight simulation (thanks to Matt for offering that).  We are grateful to Rick Horton for leading this event.  Please email Rick Horton to RSVP or with any questions.
Spin Training

We are coordinating working with the New England Aerobatic Club to offer a spin training session in the Decathlon at Keene this summer.  With enough interest we will set up a day for pilots who would like to try a spin, loop, and roll.  Keep your eye on our newsletter or Facebook for updates on pricing and date.  If you are interested, please email me.
EAA Chapter Meeting

Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1314 meets the third Saturday of each month at 10:00AM in the terminal building at Keene.  If you are building a plane or just want to see what it's all about, then please come this Saturday.
Runway 20 Trees

This notice from the City of Keene:
On Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 6:00pm there will be a public meeting which will be held in the Delegation Meeting Room (2nd floor) of the Cheshire County Courthouse, 33 Winter Street, Keene, NH.

The City of Keene is in the process of preparing Phase Two of a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) to evaluate potential environmental impacts associated with a safety improvement project proposed at Dillant-Hopkins Airport. The proposed safety improvement project includes the removal of on- and off-airport obstructions (trees) to the Airport's protected airspace. The EA document provides the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation with the information necessary to determine whether the project has the potential to contribute to significant impacts to the environment.

The City and its Consultant, Stantec Consulting Services, Inc., will present information about the project and the project schedule. This is the first of several public meeting on for this project. Come and learn about the Phase 2 Environmental Assessment. Public comments are welcome.

The link below will take you to the Airport Department page of the City of Keene where you can find Stantec's Phase I EA dated June 2014.

Access to the Delegation Meeting Room is from the 33 Winter Street entrance.  Parking is available at the Cheshire County Registry of Deeds (33 West Street) or the former Latchis parking lot, or on the street.  For more information contact Director Jack Wozmak at jwozmak@ci.keene.nh.us or at 603-357-9835.
