Boston TRACON Tour

We have arranged to tour Boston Terminal Radar Approach Control Facilities (TRACON) in Merrimack, NH, on March 26th at 10:00AM. (Sadly, Boston Center was unable to accommodate our tour request.)

If you have previously requested a seat on the tour, you are in!  You'll need to be a U.S. citizen and bring government issued identification.  A carpool will depart from our office at 8:30 that morning.  You are also welcome to meet up with the tour group at the facility.

If you have not requested a seat but would like to attend, we can accept two more people if you contact me this week.  Please email me if you're interested.
Private Pilot Ground School

We are accepting students for our spring Private Pilot Ground School.  The class will meet Tuesday evenings at 6:00PM, for approximately two hours, beginning April 19th.  This session's duration is 12 to 14 weeks and will culminate with a practice FAA Written Exam.  The course is being taught by CFIs David Dezendorf and Denny Caldwell.  The cost is $250 plus materials.

This course is appropriate for student pilots preparing to take their written exam, private pilots in need of a refresher, and for non-aviators interested in broadening their horizons.  Please email me if you'd like more information or to be added to the roster.
Public Input Session for Airport Master Plan

The following information was provided by the City of Keene:

The City of Keene, in conjunction with the Airport Planning Advisory Committee will hold a public information meeting regarding an airport master plan update for the Dillant-Hopkins Airport. The meeting will be held in an open house format from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m on March 16, 2016 at the airport (80 Airport Road, Keene, NH).  A short semi-formal presentation will begin at 6:30.

The purpose of the Meeting is to present the project to the public and receive comments. The project is an update to the 2003 Airport Master Plan and Airport Layout Plan.

The purpose of this Update is to revise the existing facilities, forecasts, facility requirements, and development alternatives as identified in the 2003 Airport Master Plan Update.  One focus of this AMPU is to analyze the need for additional hangar development. A second focus is to evaluate the crosswind runway location, length, and width and to evaluate the existing taxiway structure.  An ancillary focus of this AMPU is to incorporate the vision of the City's Comprehensive Plan into the Airport Master Plan Update to the extent possible.  In addition, green initiatives will be examined for the airport's terminal building.

All interested citizens are invited to attend this public meeting. Written comments from the public regarding this project are requested and may be presented in writing by regular mail or email. Forms for submitting comments will be available at the meeting or upon request, or you may submit them directly via email to one of the people listed below.

If you have general questions or concerns regarding the proposed project, or want to submit comments, you may contact Ervin Deck, Stantec Consulting Services project manager at (207) 887-3828 ([email protected]) or Rebecca Landry, Assistant City Manager at (603) 357-9802 ([email protected]).
Short Field Course

Monadnock Aviation is pleased to offer a Short Field Course beginning Saturday May 14th.  Whether you have a specific short field that you would like to access or are just looking to hone your aviator skills, this course can help.

The course is designed to begin with a group lecture (approximately 3 hours on May 14th) discussing short field techniques, weather and density altitude, and other flight planning factors.  Our Redbird LD simulator will be used to demonstrate techniques.

Following the lecture (either the same day or soon thereafter), we will offer flight instruction to pre-selected short fields to practice your technique. We can tailor the fields to your needs, whether it be the seacoast, New Hampshire or Vermont mountains, or Connecticut and nearby coastal areas.  Your flight experience can be a private or you can cut the flight cost by flying dual with another "student".  The flight portion of the training will provide for up to 4 hours of flight time in our Cessna 172 and more can be arranged on an individual basis.

Intrigued?  Here's information from AvWeb to whet your appetite and refresh on the techniques you'll need for this course.

The cost for this course is $850 for individual flight time or $450 for dual flight time and includes 7 hours of instruction (3 lecture and 4 flight) as well as Redbird LD simulator use, and use of our Cessna 172 (wet).
For those who choose to do the flight portion individually, it can also serve as a Flight Review and an aircraft checkout in N5136C for your future flight use. (It is possible that we can complete the training in your aircraft.  Email me and we can discuss the details of that situation.)

Please contact me with any questions or if you are ready to reserve your seat.
