Why Come to Keene?

For Art in the Park and the Keene Music Festival
The weekend of September 5th

Keene's Annual Art in the Park event is being held September 5th and 6th and the Keene Music Festival is on September 5th.

It's a great weekend in Keene to enjoy and celebrate local artists and musicians. Both are in beautiful downtown Keene and a short taxi ride from the airport.

Keene Music Festival

Please let Monadnock Aviation know if you would like help with transportation, dining reservations, or lodging for that weekend.

It's Barbecue Time!

This Saturday is BBQ day at Keene.  Please join us at noon for lunch, conversation, and belly dancers. Okay, there won't really be belly dancers (unless David gets bored manning the grill) but it got your attention!

If you're looking for something else to do Saturday, the great guys at Parlin Field are hosting an Open House between 8AM and 2PM. With pancakes in the morning and a pig roast at lunch, plus young Eagles Flights and a NHANG Blackhawk, what's not to like?!

Congratulations Rick!

Congratulations to Rick Horton on his first solo flight!  Rick trains with CFI Rick Beck in our Piper Warriors.  Rick grew up watching his dad pursue his own aviation dreams and build a helicopter.  He now looks forward to being the Pilot In Command with his dad in the right seat!

Double congratulations are due to Rick as he has been selected to be an

Congratulations Jack!

Congratulations to Jack Quigley on his first solo flight!  Jack trains with CFI Gene Moody in our Piper Warriors.  Jack tackled his training with great confidence and ease and quickly rose to the solo challenge.  Always calm and collected, he is the poster child for "never let them see you sweat".

Private Pilot Ground School

We are registering now for our fall Private Pilot Ground School.  The class will begin in late September.  We will meet one night per week for about 12 weeks.  Whether you are a student pilot preparing for the written exam or a rusty pilot looking to refresh or an aviation enthusiast who just wants to learn, this is the course for you.  Call or email to reserve your seat in the class.
Instrument Ground School

We are preparing to offer an Instrument Ground School in January.  This class will meet one night a week and last for approximately 12 weeks.  Please call or email me if you'd like more information or to be added to the roster.
Oh, The Places You'll Go!
Have you been to Montauk (KMTP)?  It's an easy hour or so flight to the South of Keene and sits on the tip of Long Island.  Runway 06/24 is 3246 feet long with displaced thresholds on both ends.

There is a $20 landing fee.  Parking is tight, but there should be someone there to help you find your tie-down spot (The AFD says it is attended Apr-Oct).
There is a marina very close and several places to eat within a half mile of the airport.  Right across the street is the Crabby Cowboy Cafe (see menu picture).
Rick Beck and Chris Alexay recently made this a lunch destination. They said the food was good and it was an easy cross country.  Thanks to Rick for the pictures!
If you have someplace that you enjoy flying to, send me pictures and a description.  Help me to create a list of good flying destinations!
AOPA's Cross Country Challenge

AOPA is hosting a Cross Country Challenge. The seminar will take place 7PM to 9PM September 3rd in Manchester at Southern New Hampshire University.  Here is the link for more informationSounds like a great way to think through the entire cross country process rather than training for one isolated issue at a time.

Thank you,

Beth
