Last BBQ of the Season

Come one, come all.  We will host our last barbecue until spring this Saturday at noon.

One small request as we go into the holiday season.  Please bring canned or non-perishable boxed food items with you. We will take all donations to Keene's Community Kitchen to help provide meals for those in need.

Get Your Wings On!

Look what's new at Monadnock Aviation.  We are thrilled to offer silver wings with the Monadnock Aviation logo for sale at $20.00 each.  These are perfect on backpacks, ball caps, and flight bags.  They make nice gifts too.

The gold wings can not be bought, but must be earned!  We will proudly present gold wings to each of our students who is awarded their pilot's license.

Congrats to John!

Congratulations to John Esteban for his first solo flight.  John trains with CFI Rick Beck in our Piper Warrior.  John started his flight training long ago but life got in the way and he is now getting back to finish it.  What a pleasure to see the plan come together!

Cold Weather Operations

Well, there's no way to avoid it so let's embrace it.  Winter is on the way.  CFI Rick Beck and I have compiled some resources on cold weather operations to help keep you safe and keep your aircraft operating.

This link is to the FAA Safety Briefing on Winter Operations.  It's a big document (18MB), but packed with great information.

This link is an AOPA Webinar on Cold Weather Ops.  It is just over an hour long and not dazzling on graphics, but good information nonetheless.

And finally, let's see who was paying attention.  Here is a pop quiz on cold weather operations from AOPA's Air Safety Institute.  (You may need to create a log in to access this.  It's easy, free, and worth a few moments of time to access all of the resources available from AOPA.)

VFR Operations Safety Seminar

What are you doing December 6th at noon?  How about brushing up on your flying skills with Monadnock Aviation and guest speaker CFI Tom Cahill.  We are grateful for his interest and excited to welcome Tom; he comes to us from Glens Falls (KGFL).  He is a CFII and MEI with a passion for flying and teaching.  Tom is a businessman who has incorporated flying into his success.

Tom's focus will be on accident prevention and safety.  He will discuss real life examples of how mishaps could have been avoided.   The discussion will begin at the flight preparation stage with notams, weather briefings, and preflight.  Humorously, how not to embarrass yourself in front of a lineman while trying to taxi over your own chocks.  Tom will discuss in flight concerns: fuel starvation, how to react to a fire, emergency landings, wildlife on the runway, communications, and other common scenarios which do not always end well -- but could.

The VFR portion of the seminar will last about 90 minutes depending on the amount of questions and discussion.  If there is interest in the audience, Tom has generously agreed to stick around afterward and discuss IFR concerns too.

Tom is an experienced pilot who brings lots of pictures, video, and humor to a serious topic.  Please take advantage of this free seminar and join us December 6th at noon.

Rusty Pilot Seminar

Are you a rusty pilot?  Then we will welcome you on January 17th to an AOPA Rusty Pilot Seminar at Monadnock Aviation.  This seminar is designed to bring the less-than-current and not-very-proficient pilot back up to a knowledge level where flying can be a reality again.  The seminar fulfills the ground instruction requirement for your Flight Review.

We will begin at noon and end between 2:00 and 3:00PM depending on the length of the discussions.  There is no charge for this seminar and, if the group is full of hungry and rusty pilots, then we will take orders for pizza.

Please register for the seminar here.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Thank you,

Beth
