Why Come to Keene?

To Be Inspired
on

Mount Monadnock (3165 ft) is said to be the most climbed mountain in America and second in the world only to Mount Fuji.  I do not know who is counting the number of climbers but I can report that it is a fun climb with a spectacular view waiting at the top.  The ascent takes the average person 2 to 3 hours and the descent a bit less which  makes it an easy hike to make in a day.   There are over 40 miles of maintained trails on the mountain so you can choose the level of difficulty which best suits you.  This is a great family outing!

See what Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau  had to say about Grand Monadnock.

Barbecue and Guest Speaker May 17th!

Who's hungry? Monadnock Aviation's summer barbecues kick off May 17th at noon.

We welcome a special guest speaker to bring in the "flying season".  Chris Winkeleer is an Air Traffic Control Operations Manager at New York Air Route Traffic Control Center (NYARTCC) with over 30 years experience in air traffic control.  He'll be here to offer some "other side of the frequency" stories with us. Chris will discuss:
  • NORDO Aircraft:  ATC Methods for Re-establishing Communications with Airborne Aircraft
  •  VFR Flight Plans:  What They Mean to ATC
  •  The FAA & NEXTGEN:  Coming Upgrades to the National Airspace System

Please join us to feed your stomach and feed your brain!

Main Runway Closed Beginning May 12th

A reminder that Keene's Runway 2/20 rehabilitation project commences May 12th.
The project will include the reclaiming of existing pavement on the main runway followed by resurfacing.  This, of course, means the runway will be closed for approximately 6 weeks.  Runway 14/32 will remain open except when the intersection work is completed.  During the intersection work, both runways will be closed.  The intersection work is expected to take between 7 to 10 days.

You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates on the project and runway conditions.

Currency May Not Equal Proficiency

Spring is here and we have seen an uptick in the number of aircraft operations at Keene.  If you are dusting off the logbook after a long winter of being grounded, consider whether you are current and consider whether you are proficient.  The two are not the same and flying is a perishable skill.

We have flight instructors available seven days a week if you would like to spend an hour or so brushing up.  We can use your plane or ours.  And remember, we do have a Redbird LD simulator if you are trying to duck in quickly during your lunch break!
