Congratulations Gene
Congratulations to Gene Moody who earned his Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate. After what felt like eternal delays due to weather, his check ride came and went without a hitch! Gene is a delight to be around and brings much experience and enthusiasm to flight training. We are proud to have Gene as part of our team. You can reserve flight time with Gene through our on-line schedule system or by calling our office.

Flight Scholarships
We see this scenario play out repeatedly. A young person comes in very interested in aviation, takes an introductory lesson, loves it. Then reality hits and they lack the ability to pay for flight training. It is difficult to watch.
There are a few financing options out there, but they usually have very high interest rates and require loan collateral or co-signers.
Here are a handful of scholarship and grant opportunities for many aspects of aviation. Note the different requirements and deadlines. (If you have others that I have not listed, please make me aware of them so I can get the information out to potential students.)
EAA Scholarships. A wide variety of scholarships offered for students of all skill and age levels.
The Ninety Nines. Many opportunities for scholarships and grants in different aviation related fields.
Aero Club of New England. Offers over $25,000 in scholarship money to New Englanders.
Women In Aviation. Lots of opportunities for scholarships in flight training, aerospace education, aviation management, and maintenance.
The International Aerobatic Club. These are for aerobatic training for pilots of all experience levels.
NBAA. These are mostly for current and aspiring aviation professionals. Act quickly if that is you, as some of the application deadlines are July 31st.

Jet Hiking
We had a fun visitor last week. Amber, a travel writer, was passing through Keene on her adventure to visit all 50 states by hitching-hiking airplane rides. With 31 states done, she came from Maine and left for Connecticut three days later (thanks to Dan K). She has to make it to Montana (I think) by August for her ride to Alaska! I suspect Hawaii will be a little tougher.
She brought an amazing ability to roll with whatever comes her way. Couch, tent, Cub, Cessna 172, Cirrus, Hawker, rain, shine, walk to town, ride to town, no problem. You can check out her adventure at jethiking.com.
