Why Come to Keene?

To bask in Pumpkin Wars victory!

For all who flew in, or drove in, and participated in Keene's Pumpkin Fest, thank you.

While Keene did not break the world record for the most lit jack-o-lanterns (we have eight times in the past), we did have a great showing of 29,381carved pumpkins on display (30,128 is the current world record).

Keene was squared off against Highwoods, IL  on HGTV's Pumpkin Wars.  We succeeded in besting their number and our victory brought tens of thousands of prize dollars to educational efforts in our community!

The organizers have set October 19, 2013 as the next festival date.  We hope you'll join us then.

Barbecue Saturday

Looking for somewhere to fly this Saturday?  Come to Monadnock Aviation for a barbecue. The chili is cooking as I write this!  Mmmmmm chili. We'll eat about noon.

Congratulations Robin

Congrats to Robin Turnbaugh who completed the Girls in Flight Training (GIFT) in Vernon, Texas earlier this month.

Robin is a private pilot and working on her instrument rating.  She attended the one week program to broaden her aviation knowledge, have fun, and meet ladies with similar interests.

She did a lot of flying, saw a glimpse of military aviation through a group of female KC-135 pilots, was able to take off and land the C-17 in the simulator at Altus AFB in Oklahoma, and spent time talking with the editor of Flying magazine.   Great job Robin!

New Effective Dates

The new effective date on New York Sectionals is yesterday.  The Airport Facility Directory, Enroute Charts, and Terminal Procedures are also new as of yesterday.   Fear not, we have all in stock.
The Man Who Rode the Thunder

I found this video clip on William Rankin (from AVweb) fascinating.  Perhaps you will too.
I will leave you with a few thoughts on pilots. Credit for these funnies to my friend Jim Wall.

Pilots:
They are cold, steely-eyed, weapons systems managers who kill bad people and break
things.  However, they can also be very charming and personable. The average
pilot, despite sometimes having a swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.

These feelings generally just don't involve anyone else.
---------------------------------------------------------------
It's not that all pilots are good-looking. It's just that good-looking people seem more capable of flying.
--------------------------------------------------------------
One day, long, long ago, there was this pilot who, surprisingly was not full of shit,

but it was a long time ago.......
--------------------------------------------------------------

Hope the above made you smile!

Thank you,

Beth
