Hola todos:

Here we are in the middle of Semana Santa and San Pancho is BUSY.  All is peaceful and orderly though, thanks  to the general good nature of our visitors.   The redirection of traffic has helped as well.

Another group that really deserves recognition this week is the San Pancho Limpio committee who have done wonders to help keep the village clean and tidy.  They have installed extra trash containers and recycling bins, erected signs and taken action on a number of other fronts - all aimed at keeping San Pancho beautiful.

They need lots more help, though.  They will be having an open meeting soon - I will announce the date soon here.  If you would like to donate, please drop in and talk to Shannon Hughes at his Pancho Vida T-shirt shop on Avenieda Terco Mundo.  If you donate $1,000 pesos you will receive a free San Pancho Limpio T-shirt designed and printed by Shannon.

We recently had a fund-raiser at the golf club in support of a group of people who are doing superb work at the hospital to help people in need there.  A lot of us were not aware of the range of activities that is being offered at the hospital so I asked Michel of LLoyds Real estate to give us a clearer idea of all the things that she and her group are doing to help out.

Please read on and donate if you can!

Cheers
Glenn

Thank you Estimulcion Temprano  From Michel Griffith

Thank you to Dra. Lorena the Directora at the Hopital and the continuing support of Alberto Gonzalez Arevalo aka Beto, our expat coordinator.

AND

Many thank-yous to my friends and the families who have spent many hours looking for just the right newborn clothes.....this is not a small task! Some of the airlines allow Compassion suitcases at no cost. Postage is being provided for mailing of clothes.

AND

Thank you to the musicians and merchants who donated money and auction items.

AND

Thank you, thank you for your support and interest in our 1,400 babies born in a year J. Our event was very successful; our event was full of heart. We had anticipated making 1,000 pesos and we made 12,700 because of your generosity. We had three days to prepare for this event, and we are forever thankful for the opportunity. This will provide for diapers and soap for the year and I am planning to have receiving blankets made and provide a few mosquito nets for the babies if they are kept in a crib. All ideas are invited, please. Our Pueblo is amazing because of you and your heartfelt generosity.

In addition to the thank-yous, the additional purpose of this letter is to define what Ana Luisa Contrera and I do at the hospital. In addition to my business I am bilingual and a specialized pediatric and adult therapist, this is why I volunteer at the hospital. (Craniosacral, Polarity and Chi Gong therapy, I studied at the Traditional Hospital of Medicine in Beijing):

Estimulación Temprana or Early Stimulation is a program that is designed for newborns of 7 days up to 2 years of age, this program is offered at no cost to the families and the newborns.

1. We begin each morning by sorting out the Gift Packages for the babies and then we are off and running with printed material about breast feeding and general care of the baby. First we visit the pediatric hospital room to give the mother's and the hospitalized children the support they might need. (We also have new T-shirts that were donated and are given to each hospitalized child.)

2. We use a cloth doll as our demo for how to handle a baby, how to wash nurse, sun, burp and handle the infant. This is done with every mother whether she is a first time mother or has many children. Signals of alarm are covered. Some of the old myths may still exist such as: over dressing the baby, putting a cloth dressing over the umbilical and giving the baby tea and water without the knowledge of the pediatrician. A picture chart book is also used discussing healthy nutrition of the mother. Teaching nursing techniques can be a time-intense process for a new mother.

3. First the infant or young child sees the pediatrician and then they are sent to our office known as Early Stimulation by the doctor. In our office detailed questions are asked regarding the development of the infant or child to see if they need to be referred on to a specialist. The parent is shown how to massage their infant and therefore bond more completely which also provides the appropriate stimulation. The infant is brought into the office once a month. This is an excellent program. Some parents do not take advantage of this as they are working or may not understand the value and need of the early stimulation and assessment program. Every effort is made to educate the mother of the benefits of the program during her pregnancy.

Additional services that are available when appropriate are nutrition by an MD and services of a psychologist and extensive birth control methods are available.

Shannon and Blaze at Pancho Vida have generously pledged to provide for the Play Room in the general waiting room....how fortunate are we?

As you can see we have an absolutely fulfilling and outstanding day, ever day!

All inquiries and new born clothing drop offs are welcome at my business office at 20 Tercer Mundo, San Pancho. Hours 10 to 5 unless out showing property.
