A Message from SanPanchoLife.com's Owners
Greetings subscribers,

It is with a heavy heart this issue bids "adios" to our outstanding newsletter Editor and website Business Director,

Kimberly King.  As you will read below, this is Kimberly's last week at the helm of our newsletter.

Our free newsletter has always been financially supported by SanPanchoLife.com combined with hundreds of hours of laborious work put in by Kimberly.  Unfortunately the lack of advertisers in both the newsletter and on the website has resulted in an economic realty whereby we just cannot afford to publish the newsletter any longer.

So after almost four years of constant publication (unless we have a miraculous infusion of cash and a new potential Editor who would be interested in carrying on this San Pancho tradition) this will be the last edition for a while.

Thank you to our fantastic writers and to readers who have submitted comments and suggestions over the last four years.  Who knows?  Hopefully business picks up for San Pancho home and business owners and the town can once again support a free online newsletter in the near future. We wish you all the best of luck!

Website and San Pancho Forum: SanPanchoLife.com will continue to financially sponsor the community forum and of course the website will remain posted as long people keep coming to San Pancho on vacation.

Employment Opportunity:  The SanPanchoLife.com website continues to thrive with 4,000+ visitors and hundreds of rental reservations every month.  If you are interested in the newly available Business Director position please feel free to contact Ian personally at 322-136-9797 or mail to: info@sanpancholife.com

Saludos,

This will be my last newsletter as I have decided to move on and join my husband, Chris King in Real Estate at Rancho Riviera Realty.
I have enjoyed my experience here and have learned a lot about San Pancho and the people we share it with. I wish all of you and SanPanchoLife the best of luck in the future.
I hope you've enjoyed this newsletter as much as I've enjoyed bringing it to you, and I want to thank all of the writers who have contributed to La Voz de San Pancho. I could not have done it without you.
I'd like to invite everyone tonight at 6pm at Rancho Riviera Realty located at #50 Tercer Mundo as we celebrate all the writers who have contributed to La Voz de San Pancho newsletter.

Saludos!

Kimberly

Mexico Tourism Report

The success of Mexico's new national tourism policy hinges on creating a safe environment for visitors and improving public safety, according to President Enrique Pena Nieto.

"It is essential to offer tourists, both domestic and foreign, a safe environment, and we will continue to work on improving public safety," he said at the unveiling of his tourism policy during a recent speech to state and government officials on the Riviera Nayarit.

To strengthen the tourism sector, "it is time to consolidate and build on the tourism capital we already have and focus on modernizing and revitalizing our existing destinations," Pena Nieto said.

"We will open Mexico to the world, and the world will visit Mexico," he said. "Tourism is a fundamental component of our economy and a key driver of national development."

While tourism is a key strategic sector for national development, accounting for close to 9% of Mexico's annual gross domestic product, he pointed out that "the tourism sector still has enormous potential for growth. It is necessary to create a synergy between the private sector and government to enhance that sector for our country's economic development."

With Mexico's large stock of cultural, natural and historical attractions, coupled with its geographic connections, access and connectivity, "Mexico has everything it needs to become a global tourism power," the president said. "We want to be a world-class destination."

His tourism master plan is based on four guidelines.

The first, legislative and sectorial transformation, will include improved decision-making to ensure the implementation of various programs to boost tourism.

To that end, Pena Nieto created and will head a select tourism committee, which will coordinate government efforts "to align the policy of the federal government with the efforts of the various states of the country," he said.

The aim of his second guideline, innovation and competitiveness, is to diversify Mexico's tourism products to leverage its attractions in the global marketplace.

"We want to specialize in six segments: sun and beach tourism; cultural tourism; ecotourism and adventure tourism; health tourism; sports tourism; and special-interest or luxury tourism," he said.

Pena Nieto intends to create a national tourism certification system to ensure the quality of tourist services "because to be successful, we will have to compete on the basis of the quality of services offered by our country."

Development and promotion, the third guideline, is crucial to building and strengthening "the confidence of investors in our country," according to Pena Nieto.

"Mexico will be projected to the whole world, but we must also project an image of reliability, infrastructure, modernity and of the various services offered today to international tourism," he said.

The fourth guideline of the national tourism policy is sustainability and social benefit, which means creating policies and launching initiatives to ensure that tourism in Mexico is "a clean industry that cares for and preserves our natural heritage, history and culture," Pena Nieto said.

Our 5th Annual Children´s Art Festival

"Gracias a la Vida" was a huge success! We are just so happy and full of gratitude! It was an amazing adventure for all of us: three days of activities, more than one hundred items auctioned, almost one hundred children honored... it was a once in a lifetime experience

!Goods & Services Donors

On Thursday, municipal authorities joined us to inaugurate our 3 day celebration and present the young artists with their diplomas. Afterwards we all enjoyed a good laugh with Pata de Perro, an extraordinary clown show, who added a super fun and relaxed touch to the evening.

On day 2 we had our open house where we got to share with the community all the amazing art that children and artist created and just a few minutes after 6PM our very own Circo de los Niños' took over San Pancho´s Main Street! Palm trees were dancing, circus tents were walking, and people were jumping out of giant cakes!  It was wonderful to see our town so full of color, music and energy.

And finally Saturday arrived and our benefit gala and auction was here: tireless volunteers were working all around the building, staff members were preparing final details, the orchestra was doing their sound check...and all of a sudden magic happened and we were ready to go!

The building looked just like a museum, guests enjoyed delicious food and awesome music and auctions were super exciting! HUGE THANK YOU to all of you for making this year, "gracias a la vida" another successful entreamigos fundraiser.

SPBO Field Station becomes a reality!!!

SPBO would like to thank Richard and Linda Prince for allowing the use of their property for the SPBO field station. The station will be located a few miles northeast of San Pancho in dense capomo/oil coconut palm forest. Construction of net lanes and repairs to the existing palapa bugun in mid February. In order for the station to be up and running, a new deck, roof and composting toilet will need to be constructed, as well as net lanes and area search plots implemented.
SPBO would also like to thank Environment Canada for sending banding supplies, including two handheld GPS, mist nets and a banding kit. With the help of volunteers and generous donations such as this, bird-banding and surveys could potentially be underway by spring migration.
In order to complete the palapa project SPBO could use your help. Development of the infrastructure requires purchasing termite-resistant lumber for the deck and composting toilet, and recycled canvas to serve as roofing material. Any donations, including materials or your time, would be greatly appreciated.
Once the field station is in full operation it will serve as SPBO´s primary banding station. Here, we will begin to conduct area search surveys, sound recordings and bird-banding in order to monitor the health and productivity of birds in the area. It will also serve as a hub for community outreach, hands-on learning programs and capacity building projects such as banding workshops, public demonstrations and internships. The palapa will be utilized as housing for future interns during training and scientists of any discipline who wish to come and conduct research on the area´s diverse flora and fauna.

Donations to San Pancho Hospital
San Pancho Hospital recently received two welcome donations of sheets, towels and robes from both a hotelier and Costa Azul Resort.

Seguro Popular is available to all people who have a legal residency  in Mexico. A copy of your passport, birth certificate, residency card and a bill showing your address.are needed. Personally, I feel the care at the hospital is very caring, the hospital is a necessary community service.

Mil gracias a todos los profesionales y donantes.

Beach Walkers

We all owe a lot to the truly lovely lady who usually pens this tome and I am lucky to have her as my next door neighbor.

We have in recent weeks enjoyed a more than lively social life in San Pancho with the hundreds gathered  for the Music Festival that got everyone hopping and clapping followed by an  overflow of people at "Gracias a la Vida" the 5th Children's Art Festival at Entre- Amigos. A great party with yummy food and too much to drink with music and dancing to boot.  A great success as a fundraiser as well. The kiddies art had something that appealed to everyone even cynical old bores like the writer.

I want to call attention to another group in San Pancho who attract little attention and want less, The Beach Walkers.  Every morning there are from ten to fifty people who walk the one and a quarter mile length of the beach both ways at first light to get a "Tranquilo" start on the day and breath some of that high energy high Ozone ocean air as a jump start.  They include many Mexicans who have to put up with the unreasonable demands of the Gringo Tourist all day and also the Type A recent Gringo or Canadian arrival who has to put up with the Joys of dealing with Telmex without enough Spanish. Without the relief of this near religious experience with soft sand, Surf and Wildlife, San Pancho could easily slip into anarchy.

The requirements are simple two to four legs and the ability to smile at and greet all you encounter without exception.

The benefits include a healthy appetite for a delicious breakfast at "Taza de Cafe" (personal favourite for Huevos-Rancheros) or one of many other spots that are open, and a complete lack of frowns until at the very least Lunchtime.

You might live a few minutes longer for every day you get that exercise!

I know many who read this live in that northern place where Nature does not really like you

and uses the weather to illustrate her feelings. So I will not irritate you by mentioning the fresh but salubrious temperatures in the morning or the option of taking a quick dip in the surf should you jog or walk too briskly and work up a sweat.

Back From The Brink

End of the Season Report:

It's been a great season for the turtles of San Pancho and while we still have 9 nests incubating in the beach nursery, our Final Figures for the year are calculated as follows:

Total Nests Collected 1,421

Hatchlings Released 105,000

In contrast, ten years ago, in 2003, a total of 356 nests were recorded for the season.
Twenty years ago, in 1993, only 64 nests were recorded.
While these figures are heartening and encouraging, Olive Ridley sea turtles are still endangered in Mexico and the poaching of eggs and meat continues to be a problem.  These figures also show how perilously close these amazing animals came to extinction.  Thanks to the community of San Pancho for supporting the Sea Turtle project.

For more information about the turtle program, visit our website:
 http://www.project-tortuga.org/index.html
Or you can see our day to day work on Facebook at: San Pancho Turtles  https://www.facebook.com/pages/San-Pancho-Turtles

                                                 Healthy Change

My mother often reminds me that, "the only permanent thing in life is change". Though it's not always what I want to hear, I know she's right!  Life is a rollercoaster of challenge, opportunity, learning and adaptation. Unfortunately, many people struggle with the idea of change, afraid of leaving their comfort zone. Yet, knowing that change is an inevitable part of life, why not try to embrace it? Is leaving your comfort zone and trying something new such a bad thing?

Change can actually be wonderfully healthy! In fact, the natural world is in constant flux. Change is all around us as the seasons are shifting in San Pancho. The cool winter weather is passing and the new life of spring is taking over: new blossoms, butterflies and brilliant blue sky. As the seasons change, your body might naturally change as well. You might crave different, lighter foods. Now is a good time to consider treating your body to a spring cleanse (I can support you with this). The spring is an excellent time to clean the slate, start fresh and really listen to your body.

Stepping gently out of your comfort zone and embracing new, healthy change is actually where much of the magic of life happens. By opening yourself up to some uncertainty in life, you're also giving yourself an opportunity to learn and grow.  When was the last time you voluntarily stepped out of your comfort zone? It might be time to be a little brave and try something new, even something that scares you. You might find that it's actually a healthy treat to your body and your mind.

In the spirit of healthy change, I'd like to thank Kim King for all her hard work with this newsletter! Kim is moving forward and embracing a new chapter of her life. Thank you again Kim and we look forward to hearing where life takes you next!

Spotlight On Rentals

The Inn at San Pancho

Reserve this Rental in San Pancho

for your Next Vacation!

The Inn at San Pancho sits on a gentle hill above the fishing village of San Pancho on Mexico's stunning Riviera Nyarit.

Three of the four charming casitas at the Inn at San Pancho have open floor plans and are decorated with folk art and hand painted furniture, comfortable king size beds and windows open to the town of San Pancho and the sea beyond.

Villa Victoria, our largest casita, has two bedrooms, a full kitchen, library, and hacienda style veranda. Casitas Agave and Nopal share the same commodious floor plan, which includes a large living/dining area and a well stocked kitchenette. Agave has both a veranda and a front porch. Our smallest casita, the one-room Chica, is an idyllic blend of indoor/outdoor living with a queen bed, ocean view and private garden.

Our crystal clear pool is maintained by using salts rather than harsh chemicals. Other amenities include fresh flowers, terry robes, daily housekeeping service, internet access, AC (except Chica), hairdryers, safes and ample parking.

The Inn at San Pancho, which hosts family reunions, retreats and wedding parties, may be rented in its entirety, and sleeps up to 12 people in four individual casitas, for a total of 5 bedrooms, one full kitchen, two kitchenettes and four bathrooms.

Trip Advisor reviews The Inn at San Pancho as "Spectacular," "Exquisite!" "Enchanting," "A little oasis of comforts in a storybook Mexican town."
