Hola 1009 San Pancho Readers! We are very excited about reaching over 1000 subscribers to La Voz de San Pancho! Thanks for reading and we appreciate your interest!
The fundraiser for Escuela del Mundo was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed the music and the paella. The Flamenco dancers along with the fire dancers were a lot of fun. Over 200 people attended.
The weather is perfect with lows in the 60's and highs in the 80's. Now is the best time to visit San Pancho.

San Pancho Music Festival
|
San Pancho's Music Festival is a vibrant, eclectic expression of performing art that is held each year at this beautiful little seaside village, during the last weekend of February. This year's festival will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, February 22nd through the 24th, beginning at 5pm each day, and ending around 11pm.
It began informally in 2001 in the backyard of a local resident, and by 2006 included some 116 performers. It has progressively grown ever since, attracting colorful musicians from around the world. The Festival has become a cultural tradition in San Pancho, and something that many plan their vacations around. Part of the tradition is that there is no fee charged to attend the festival, and performers are not paid. The Festival is entirely supported by the gracious contributions of local musicians and international recording artists, and by the local residents of San Pancho. Artists come to perform because they enjoy performing in the intimate venue and magical surroundings of San Pancho. Much of the charm of the festival is that it includes a balance of amateurs and professional performers, who come together for 3 days to share an unforgettable and enriching musical experience in one of the most beautiful regions of Mexico.
Donations are encouraged, but there is no intent for the Festival to profit from the performances. Additionally, proceeds from sales of music and video CD's go directly to the performing artists.
This year the Music Festival returns to San Pancho's Plaza del Sol. In 2012 Plaza del Sol was remodeled and it's facilities updated. A new stage was completed to enhance the Plaza as an entertainment venue. Public restrooms were modernized, the portico was remodeled, and new landscaping installed. The Plaza is now much better suited to accommodate the Music Festival, as well as the ever increasing crowds drawn to the community celebrations and festivals there.

Back From The Brink

The Leatherback Nest Hatched!! After much anxious watching and waiting the leatherback nest hatched without any witnesses in the early morning hours of February 3rd and fifty seven leatherback hatchlings crawled out of the sand into the sea. When Grupo Eco volunteers checked the nest that day, they found just one last hatchling buried under the sand. That hatchling was released that evening with much excitement, fanfare and well wishes from many turtle lovers in San Pancho, and in fact around the world. A Leatherback nest in the Riviera Nayarit is a rare and beautiful event. We are so grateful to have been able to witness this amazing moment in nature. Female Leatherback s typically lay 7 nests of 40-75 eggs 9 days apart and then they return to their feeding grounds far out at sea. Nests are in constant danger from human poachers, animals, beach erosion and bad weather. Normally very few eggs that are laid actually hatch, but in the case of the San Pancho Nest, 58 eggs were laid and all 58 eggs hatched and all hatchlings made it safely into the ocean. From that point on, their fate is out of our hands. Thank you to all the people who watched the nest respected the nest and shared in the joy of its success. Swim free and be safe little miracles!!! ¡ naden libre y permanezcan a salvo !

Special creatures visiting the San Pancho estuary.
For the last three to four weeks we have a special visitor at the San Pancho estuary: this is a Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens) which is a species of high conservation priority. This particular individual is more special because it was banded and we know its life history; P61, as the band on its left leg reads was banded as an immature on June 11th 2012 at Isla Alcatraz, Sonora, México. The individual now affectionately called P61 feeds very happily doing a peculiar dance that is interesting to watch.
Another important sighting that has been at least the second we know of is a Neotropical River Otter (Lontra longicaudis) which was almost eaten by our already famous and frequently seen river crocodile. Neotropical Otters are also of high conservation concern and are actually a different species from the North American River Otter (Lontra canadensis). Unfortunately we have not been able to document it yet so we encourage you to take your camera to the estuary and have it ready to take a picture of the playful otter(s) but remember to watch for the croc, it is not a myth!

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?" By Ava
Reflexology is an ancient, scientific art, based on the principle that there are Energy Zones and Reflex points in the feet which are reflective of the entire body. The application of acupressure to these points using thumb, finger and hand techniques activates the body's innate power to heal imbalances.
Primarily, Reflexology results in stress reduction; improves circulation; assists the body in clearing toxins; revitalizes energy, and provides a profound sense of Relaxation and Well-Being. In addition, specific symptoms can be targeted in a session by working with more focus on those areas of the feet that correspond to that part of the body. People of all ages- infants to elders, can benefit from a treatment.
Our feet serve us daily, year in and year out! Especially here in Mexico, we are walking so much, on cobbles, and dusty lanes, frequently in flip-flops- a 'no-no', but we all do it! By taking a little time to put your feet first, the rewards can be numerous! Whether you are experiencing foot pain, or other health problems, Reflexology can be a powerful adjunct to your self-care plan. While not a substitute for medical care ( the reflexologist does not diagnose, nor cure illness as only the body can cure) a session can and does promote and facilitate healing, wellness, and overall Tranquility!

Swinging from Trees
|
Life in the jungle is always an adventure! Here at the Tailwind Jungle Lodge we host a variety of wonderfully unique guests. People from all over the world join us in celebrating the beauty and magic of this natural place. This week we had some particularly special guests in the jungle . . . Professional aerialist, Sabrina Pringle, and her stuntman husband, Jonah Logan, have opened our eyes to the art of swinging from the trees. Together, we wandered around our jungle trails looking for just the right tree. Lucky for me, we decided upon my personal favorite tree on our property, a spectacular palm tree in the elaborate embrace of a well-established strangler fig. Before I knew it, Jonah (also a rock climbing instructor) had his climbing gear out and was making his way up the tree. Shortly thereafter, a stunning length of blue silk was hung from the tree and Sabrina gave us a magical aerials performance. The jungle has never seen anything quite like this before! Some of you may be familiar with silks from our local community center, EntreAmigos, where they have several silks hanging from the ceiling and have put on several performances in the past. Aerials on silks is a beautiful art and extremely challenging too! Sabrina was kind enough to give to give me a quick lesson. As I learned some basic moves, including the "climb", "brake" and "hip tilt", my adrenaline was pumping. Very exciting to learn something new! I will also say that my arms were definitely feeling it the following day. The strength involved in dance with silk is tremendous. Watching the grace and fluidity of a performer like Sabrina is very misleading; she makes it look easy!Want to see more swinging from jungle trees?
