Mind Nature, Mind Enviornment, therefor Mind Design!

Architectural design is the center of Raul Velasquez's practice. Raul has a contemporary style, without denying it`s Mexican roots and never forgetting it is created to suit a certain place and  culture.

Since 2004, Raul and his work team have been building custom made homes for people from Mexico, the U.S. and other parts of the world, allowing them their wishes to create a dream home by the sea, but always being respectful of the delicate balance between environment and nature.

The methods to achieve these goals are to use local materials instead of bringing them from far away places. This way, the use of local products are increased and will not pollute the enviornment with unnecessary transportations. Also Raul utilizes carefully selected craftsmen who have inherited, over many generations, their incredible masonry techniques. All this with intelligent design and a close eye to detail, which result in a most expressive springboard for architecture.

Raul also utilizes Green techniques, taking advantage of local materials and other advanced technologies, so water, sea breezes, gravity and the sun can be allies for a functional and comfortable lifestyle. Most of all, Raul's designs aim to conserve our beautiful enviornment and most unique nature.

Back From The Brink

Traffickers Arrested in Mexico with 22,000 Turtle Eggs

Mexico City, Mexico - Two people were arrested in Mexico as they attempted to traffic more than 22,000 turtle eggs that were carried on a public bus.

The arrest was made on a highway in the southern state of Oaxaca, on an unspecified date, by officers patrolling beaches where the turtles nest, Mexico's environmental protection agency said in a communique.

The 22,470 eggs that were seized came from olive ridley sea turtles. The suspects were also transporting 105 turtle parts from the same species.

The olive ridley sea turtle is an endangered species protected by the Mexican government.

Recently, Mexican environmental groups reported that over the past six years some 7,000 loggerhead sea turtles have died in waters off the Baja California peninsula, presumably due to the impact of commercial fishing activities.

This species, also in danger of extinction, nests in Japan and reaches Mexican waters when it migrates.

Could You Eat What You Are Putting On Your Skin?

What did you put on your skin today? Moisturizer, sunscreen, make up, all of the above? Many of us are aware of the need to take care of our skin; doing our best to prevent wrinkles, prevent aging and keep our skin hydrated, etc.  But did you know that you shouldn't put anything on your skin that you wouldn't put in your mouth?

You might be somewhat aware of the importance of quality nutrition.  Now it's time to think beyond what you're putting in your body to what you're putting on your body.  Start checking out the labels on your creams, potions and sunscreens.  If the ingredient list goes on and on and includes complicated sounding concoctions that you've never heard of, then this is a big red flag. Artificial coloring, fragrance, preservatives, etc.  Your skin absorbs it all.

Complete nourishment means looking at all aspects of nutrition and how you're taking care of your body. Ideally, you want to pay as much attention to what you're putting on your body as you are to what you're putting in your mouth.  Instead of buying an army of beauty products that are loaded with processed ingredients, save your money and keep it simple with natural oils, and whole food ingredients like coconut oil that nourish your skin.

As always, everyone is unique and so is your skin! It's important to find a balance of natural skincare products that work best for you.  Ready to start taking care of yourself? Check out my free guide to start listening to your body and let me support you with getting your health back on track.

                                              Birding With Luis
What´s the San Pancho Bird Observatory up to?
2013 is coming with a lot of momentum, besides the birding tours which for now are our main source of revenue.  These are some of our main programs:
  • Continuing with the informative signs and checklist project; checklists are ready  to be printed for sponsors; we are completing the design for the signs and still need some more sponsors to complete the project. For more info visit http://birdingsanpancho.org/informative-signs-letreros-informativos/
  • We are starting weekly Bilingual Bird Identification classes at Entreamigos on Tuesday January 15th from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. Classes are free for locals and donations are accepted from visitors.
  • We are also starting a pilot program called "Birds Beyond Borders" to connect schools in the US and Canada with schools in Mexico with the main topic being birds.  Our first schools for this program are: Escuela del Mundo in San Pancho and Willow Wind Education Center in Ashland Oregon.
  • Volunteers are needed to receive and start doing bird population monitoring, if you are interested please contact: info@birdingsanpancho.org
To learn more about San Pancho Bird Observatory´s programs visit www.birdingsanpancho.org
