April Lawn Care
April is an important month for lawn care, especially for weed control and fertilizing. Pre-emergent weed control should be done in early spring to keep crabgrass, dandelions and other weeds at bay. Pre-emergent chemicals only work on weed seeds, stopping them from sprouting. Some experts recommend waiting two to four months after applying most pre-emergent herbicides before seeding new turf. If you seed your lawn too soon, the herbicide will not only prevent the unwanted weeds from growing, but the new grass as well. Fertilize established lawns with a regular, all-season fertilizer. If you have seeded your lawn be sure to keep it watered. Do not allow the soil to dry out between rainfall and waterings. New sod must also be kept well watered. [Back to Top]

Spring At Last - Not So Fast!
The groundhog may have predicted an early spring and according to the calendar spring officially started on March 20th, but on March 25th Maryland received one final blast of winter! This spring storm brought more snow to most areas than any other storm this winter, with most areas seeing 4-5 inches of accumulation.
Although temperatures were expected to rise, our crews were still hard at work plowing and salting to ensure the safety of our clients.

Go Green for Arbor Day and Earth Day!
Even though St. Patrick's Day was in March, April is certainly a month to be green! Both Earth Day and Arbor Day are observed in April.
Arbor Day
National Arbor Day is a holiday on which trees are honored and we celebrate their importance to human life. It's a day to plant and dedicate a tree to help nature and the environment. The word "Arbor" comes from the Latin word for tree.
The idea for Arbor Day was proposed at a Nebraska State Board of Agriculture meeting on January 4, 1872 by J. Sterling Morton. Today most states commonly observe National Arbor Day on the last Friday in April, however each state's Arbor Day celebration may be observed at different dates to coincide with the best tree-planting weather.
The National Arbor Day Foundation provides millions of trees for planting. It is estimated that 18 million trees are planted each year on Arbor Day.
Earth Day
Earth Day is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment. It's a day when people demonstrate support for environmental protection and bring the public's attention to the effects our lifestyle is having on the planet.
Earth Day was founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin in 1970. The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970 marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement. Approximately 20 million Americans participated. Earth Day is now celebrated in over 100 countries across the globe. We should all try to do our part to be greener. Not just for one day, but every day. For more information on Arbor Day and Earth Day, visit The National Arbor Day Foundation and The Earth Day Network.
