Let it Snow!!
Here's a quick recap of the recent winter weather we've seen in our area:
December 24th: Areas in Harford and Baltimore Counties saw 1 - 3 inches; Baltimore City had 1.5 inches. Carroll County saw 4.5 inches, while Anne Arundel County just got spotty coatings.
December 26th: Harford and Baltimore Counties again saw 1 - 3 inches. Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County and Howard County received 1 - 2.5 inches. Carroll County again saw the most with 4 inches.
December 29th: Harford, Cecil, Anne Arundel, Baltimore Counties and Baltimore City saw .5 - 1.6 inches. Carroll County received 3 inches.
January 5th brought a wintry mix that just left light coatings in most areas. Enough to keep our crews out performing ice checks and salting when necessary to keep everyone safe.

Are You Prepared For More Winter Weather?
Now that we've had a little taste of the white stuff, it's time to make sure you're prepared for a bigger snow storm should we get one . Don't wait until the last minute-take some time and go through your winter weather supplies and tools. Many times people wait until right before a snow storm and rush out to buy a new snow shovel simply because they can't find their old one.
Here is a checklist to help you and your family prepare for winter weather:
- Check your snow shovels and put them where you can easily get them
- Make sure you have salt to melt ice on steps and walkways
- If you have a snow blower, make sure it's operational or have it serviced
- Check your tires to make sure they have adequate tread
- Replace windshield wiper blades
- Check your antifreeze and windshield washer fluid
- Insulate pipes and allow faucets to drip a little during extreme cold temperatures to avoid freezing
- Learn how to shut off water valves, in case a pipe bursts
- Keep fire extinguishers on hand. Many people turn to alternate heating sources without taking the necessary safety precautions
- Maintain at least a 4 day supply of prescription medicines
These are just a few of many steps you can take to be prepared for winter weather. Winter's not over yet. In fact, the first day of winter was December 21st, so it really has just begun!
