A Message from the General Manager
2012 was another banner year here at the Lynnwood Convention Center! For a third consecutive year, we had record high gross income and 2012 marked a record low annual subsidy. Beyond our financial success, food and beverage quality and guest satisfaction scored a 94%!
In 2012, the Lynnwood Convention Center was nominated for the second year in a row as the "Best Convention Center" in the northwest by readers of Northwest Meetings and Events magazine and our Operations Team was recognized by SMG Corporate for their comprehensive safety initiatives. These are just a few of our reasons to celebrate 2012!
In 2013, we have renewed our commitment to providing you with a first class experience, in the best possible environment, with the most competitive terms. We understand that you have many choices for your event location and we are so proud that you continue to select the Lynnwood Convention Center year after year. I couldn't be more proud of our staff and their commitment to you, our guests, and our industry.
Here's to 2012 and here's looking at 2013!
Cheers!
Angie M. Mykel

Recipe by Chef Michael Pappardelle with Italian Sausages and Kale
Olive Oil, 3 tbsp
Garlic Cloves, 3 finely sliced
Onion, 1 diced
Italian Sausages, 4 with casing removed
Red Pepper, 1 tsp crushed
Dried Basil, 2 tsp
Dried Oregano, 1 tsp
Red Wine, ¼ cup
Kale, ½ bunch leaves finely chopped
Diced Tomato Puree, 1 can
Fresh Papparadelle Pasta, 12 oz
Italian parsley, 2 tbsp chopped
Parmesan, 3 oz shaved
Salt and pepper to taste
Heat 2 tbsp of the olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium-high heat. Add the sausage and render until browned. Remove the sausage with a slotted spoon, add half of the garlic and onion and sweat over low heat for 2-3 minutes. Stir in the pepper flakes, basil and oregano. Add the wine, and reduce until the liquid has mostly evaporated. Add the tomato and simmer for 5 minutes, then add the browned sausage back in and continue simmering for an additional 15-20 minutes over low heat. Meanwhile, in another large frying pan, heat the remaining olive oil. Add the remaining onion and garlic and lightly brown over medium heat. Add the kale and stir fry until the kale turns bright green. You can add a little water to steam the kale if needed. Add the kale mixture to the tomato and sausages and mix well. For the pasta, bring a large pan of salted water to boil and cook until al dente. Drain well, reserving some of the pasta water. You can use this water to adjust the thickness of the sauce. Add the pasta to the sauce, adding a ladleful of the pasta cooking water to loosen the consistency if necessary, and then stir in the parmesan and parsley. Serve in warm pasta bowls.

Event Spotlight:
Northwest Yoga Conference
Everything for the yoga enthusiast at heart will be at the Northwest Yoga Conference February 8-10 including various classes for all ages and abilities as well as workshops for yoga
instructors, members of the military and children.
In its second year, the conference is an opportunity to deepen yoga practice as well as focus on community building, said the Director of the Northwest Yoga Conference, Melissa Hagedorn.
"I love yoga and believe in the positive changes it can make to people's lives," she added.
Each of the three days is packed with something for everyone including a yoga fashion show, meditation classes, and yoga classes meant to help relieve stress. There is also a free community yoga class that is open to the public and a yoga marketplace.
Hagedorn said one of the elements she's really excited about having this year, is an all-day workshop from renowned yoga instructor, Aadil Palkhivala.
With so many classes, workshops and options available, Hagedorn said that she is happy to personalize a conference schedule for anyone at any level. "We're happy to customize the visitor's experience for whatever their needs and level of experience is," she said, adding that there are also free classes for military members and their families.
For more information, or to register for the conference, please visit www.nwyogaconference.com.

Tips on Getting Creative with Valentine's Day Décor

To help inspire you, here are Valentine's Day decoration ideas and projects sure to spread the love.
Get Creative with Flowers
Skip the carnations and roses and spring for unique flowers like lilies and orchids. Additionally, veer away from the traditional vases and search boutiques and antique markets for milk glasses, bowls, tin pitchers, sea glass vases or unique glass tumblers that will highlight the colorful blossoms of the flowers.
Garlands full of Love
The mantle is the focal point of most living rooms, so why not dress it up for the most romantic day of the year? Make your own strand of garland using recycled sheet music or scrapbook paper. Stencil and cut out letters to spell out a message of love.
Add Flair to Plain Candles
Candles are popular décor for Valentine's Day celebrations. Forego the plain white candles and visit an art supply store. Try tying bright ribbons around candles in a neat bow or arrange various sizes of candles for a bright, colorful display.
Enjoy!

What Our Clients Are Saying About Us "Your facility and staff were great to work with. We have used your facility for at least the prior 5 years." - Sue Voth, Premier Tax Seminars, Inc.
"Rachiah (our event manager) is always a pleasure to work with. I work with a lot of sales and event coordinators up and down the West Coast and across into Canada, and by far, working with the staff at the LCC is always a relief, because I know that my event will go off without a hitch - and I can concentrate on the logistical aspects from my side rather than worry about the venue details." - Elizabeth Kinsey, Hawk Ridge Systems
"Once again, everything went smoothly, everyone had a fun time and the staff was very attentive and professional. The food was outstanding and enjoyed by all. Thank you for a job well-done!!" - Marj Schmidt, University Mechanical Contractors Inc. |
| It's Good to be Green
To add to the Convention Center's extensive recycling program already in place, the center now uses biodegradable cups for all of its water bubblers that are located inside the event rooms.
