President's Perspective

By Dr. Cynthia Crabtree, president

Recently while reading Living Faith, a daily Catholic devotional, I came across the following from a letter to the Corinthians: "Not that of ourselves we are qualified to take credit for anything as coming from us; rather, our qualification comes from God." Without question our students have exceptional talents; but, where do they get their enthusiasm, drive and determination? READ MORE

Love for a Math Teacher Adds Up

 SHMS Jane Tynan Quilt

Love for a math teacher can really add up. That's what Sacred Heart   Model School found after long-time algebra teacher Jane Tynan suffered a brain aneurysm over Christmas break. SHMS students, faculty and staff blanketed her - literally - with love and support. More than 70 people stitched quilt squares representing the things Mrs. Tynan loves....from coffee to her beloved viola. READ MORE

St Angela w Children ImageAdvice to Teachers from
St. Angela Merici

We can learn from the writings of St. Angela that she had a keen understanding of human nature. We also see the root of the charismatic personality she was, drawing people of all ages and states of life into her circle. In the Second Counsel, she said, "In dealing with your students be pleasant and kind. Let your concern for them be primarily for the love of God and for the good of souls." READ MORE

The Focus is on Our Students

Where else in Louisville can your son or daughter be educated in academics, arts, athletics and spirituality on a campus that rivals some college campuses? In today's rapidly globalizing world, students of all ages need a comprehensive education. At Sacred Heart Schools the focus is on the students and what is important for every boy and girl to succeed not only today, but tomorrow. We take our reputation for quality, high standards and leadership seriously, and we know you take it seriously, too. And that's why the Annual Fund is so important. The Annual Fund is part of the school's operating budget. It is used for the nuts and bolts of an SHS education: classroom and curricula enhancements, technology upgrades, and most important, student financial aid. If you have not yet made a gift to the 2012-2013 Annual Fund, it is not too late. Your gift will make a difference today. To make your gift, email Lindsey Smith, Annual Fund Officer, or call 502.735.6501. Make a secured online gift today!

Parent Child Holding HandsYour Child is Our First Priority: School Safety Update

The SHS Security Task Force and school administrators have agreed on classroom door safety measures for the 2013-14 school year. Faculty will be instructed to keep all door handles in the locked position so that in an emergency an open door will simply need to be pulled closed to be secured. Door window shades will also be installed beginning this summer. Teachers will pull the shades closed only in the event of a school lockdown. Classrooms on first floors will have shades installed first, followed by upper floors.

Sacred Heart Schools has contracted with School Reach beginning in August as our emergency/weather alert system. Parents, SHA students and faculty/staff will be notified of how the new system will work shortly after the school year begins. School Reach has worked extensively with Catholic schools and public school districts across the United States and understands the unique needs of our community of schools. School Reach also provides numerous opportunities for school safety professional development opportunities, which the SHS Security Task Force has already found beneficial.
