Gaining Strength from Others

Benjamin was born three months premature, struggling with breathing, and bruised from head to toe. His mother, Heather, was terrified of what this could mean for her son. Benjamin was transferred from Mount Carmel Hospital to Nationwide Children's Hospital. Soon they learned that Benjamin suffers from Noonan Syndrome and would need blood transfusions.

The team at Nationwide Children's Hospital began to treat Benjamin for his breathing, and then Heather found out he needed a catheterization to his pulmonary valve, and that he would need a gastrostomy tube (or g-tube), which delivers nutrition directly to the stomach. It's one of the ways doctors can make sure kids like Benjamine with trouble eating get the fluid and calories they need to grow.

Heather has been staying here at the Columbus Ronald McDonald House, and she is so grateful for this home-away-from-home. "The first two nights after they brought Benjamin to Nationwide Children's Hospital, I stayed in his room. It was later his nurses told me I could stay at the Columbus Ronald McDonald House. I rely on other families staying here at the Ronald McDonald House for strength, encouragement, and renewed energy, because I am on my own here in Columbus. I have so many other worries right now with Benjamin, that I do not have time to worry about normal day-to-day things. I can leave my son for a few hours to catch a nap on the comfortable beds, take a hot shower, and eat some food. The Ronald McDonald House helps keep a sense of normalcy in my life while my family and I are undergoing abnormal circumstances."

Become a Silent Auction Donor
A handcrafted wine rack for A Toast to Tinseltown in 2013
Throughout the year, RMHC hosts several fundraising events. During these events, we will often hold silent and/or live auctions to raise much needed funds to help support our families. You can make a difference in the lives of these families by donating goods or services to be used in our auctions. We welcome all sorts of in-kind donations - from unique experiences, to skilled services, to prized possessions - you have the ability to help us raise support for the House. Items may include a weekend retreat or a timeshare, a pampering spa service, pro golf lessons, live concert tickets, jewelry, the latest technology, a stylish handbag - just about anything!

Whatever it may be, this is an exciting opportunity for you to not only support a worthy cause, but also showcase your items and/or services. Your donation will be featured in front of high-profile audiences and printed in our event program booklets. We're happy to work with you to package your donation to draw the highest bids - 100% of the funds raised from your item will go directly to RMHC programs.

For more information or to donate please contact Meredith Harrison, Donor Relations Manager at [email protected] or 614-227-6039.
