Sauces That Blow Your Mind - Spice Things Up with Blue Eyed Pete's
What happens when Raleigh's hottest restaurant bottles two dish-transforming BBQ sauces? The world gets fired up. At least we did when we heard what Mandolin's chef/owner, Sean Fowler was up to. Faced with the desire to create premium restaurant caliber sauces, Sean decided to launch Blue Eyed Pete's and Mr. Soul's. Now available for purchase online, or at Mandolin Restaurant and at Nofo @the Pig. Chef Sean Fowler created Blue Eyed Pete's with the familiar flavors of traditional Kansas City style barbecue sauce and adds a touch of refinement. Based around fresh summer blueberries and blackberries, this soulful sauce hits both savory and sweet notes with cider vinegar, honey, molasses and cayenne pepper. Mr. Soul's, is a classic Western North Carolina style, vinegar-based sauce. Take your taste buds back in time with this true Southern classic, a sauce that pays homage to North Carolina's storied barbecue tradition. While Mr. Soul's is the perfect vinegar-based sauce for basting and finishing grilled, roasted, and smoked meats, it also works great as a marinade for pork, chicken, fish, vegetables, mushrooms, and even tofu. Yesterday we popped by Mandolin for the big launch party for these BBQ sauces. Hint: We got sauced! The proceeds from the event went to Feed the Firefighters Foundation. Delicious BBQ pork, Ossabaw pig and BBQ ribs cooked with these two new sauces were the main attraction. Check out Sean's recipe for Hefeweizen Grilled Oysters with Mr. Soul's Mignonette. Pick up a bottle of Mr. Soul's from Mandolin or NoFo @ The Pig, and some oysters from Locals Seafood, and fire up the grill! More recipes to that are easy to cook and shared by Mandolin are Panzanella Salad with Mr. Soul's Vinaigrette, Mr. Soul's Marinated Chicken and Blue Eyed Pete's Smoked Chicken. Get cookin...If you can stand the heat! Watch and listen to Chef Sean Fowler and partner Hanes Roberts talk about how they created and use these sauces. It will make your mouth water! You've Come a Long Way Baby - Old Fivepoints Audio Buys Building New Look, New Purpose
Disliked by many Raleigh residents, the long-vacant 1960's era Audio Buys Building always seemed a bit odd in the Five Points neighborhood context. Detractors now get their wish as it appears the building has been renovated by Rick and Carol Marcotte, the new owners who have brought new people and commerce back into the Modernist-style building. Carol Marcotte, owner of Form & Function interior design and home decor retail store that was previously on Bernard Street, purchased the odd, two-story building at the corner point at Glenwood Avenue, Whitaker Mill Road and Fairview Road in December, and has just re-opened Form and Function retail store on its second floor of the building. The bottom floor has been leased out to For Your Convenience (FYC, moved from Bickett Blvd in Raleigh) . FYC will share that space with Progeny Shoppe and Rider Hall Interiors. The third level of the building will be turned into a rooftop garden that will be rented out for events. The building wasn't even for sale but the Marcotte's made an offer to the owner because they were interested in Modernist architecture. The redesign and renovation of the 1700 Glenwood building was a winner of an AIA Triangle Merit Design award at the awards ceremony on April 14th. Tonic Design & Construction of Raleigh was the architect and construction firm that worked on the project. With Form and Function, Progeny, Rider Hall Interiors and For Your Convenience occupying the entire building, there's a lot of eye candy to drool over! Shop for gorgeous clothing and decor for the kids, goods for the mamas out there too, including super fresh home decor, funky jewelry, and luxurious cashmere for winter, as well as great interiors and accessories. Form and Function, For Your Convenience, Progeny Shoppe, Rider Hall Interiors1700 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, 27608. Hours: Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat. 10am-5pm.

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors. No one can pay to be featured on
The Beltline Buzz.. That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such. Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of
The Beltline Buzz. Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way. So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.
That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors. You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail." Yes, these are paid for. And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone. Not for any amount of money.
We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz. We look forward to delivering it.
