Roam in Numerals - Sassool Mediterranean Cafe Opens in Cary
Family togetherness can be trying unless you're a member of the Saleh family. This close-knit family has been feeding the Triangle the best authentic Lebanese and Mediterranean dishes since 1977.
There are now five Mediterranean restaurants created and run by the Saleh family and they continue using authentic recipes that were handed down to them from their mother, Cecilia the matriarch of the family. (Neomonde on Beryl Road, & Morrisville Square in Morrisville, Sitti in downtown Raleigh, Sassool in North Raleigh on Strickland Rd. and now in Cary on Kildaire Farm Rd.) The newest restaurant, Sassool Mediterranean Cafe just opened last week in Cary at the Shoppes of Kildaire at the intersection of Kildaire Farm Rd and Cary Parkway. Owner, Mounir Saleh operates it as well as Sassool in North Raleigh with his wife, Lisa, and their two oldest daughters, Noelle and Simone, the third generation of an extraordinary family! For Mounir, it is so satisfying to see Noelle and Simone running Sassool; it's one of the many blessings he has received. He never expected them to love what he does but he is incredibly grateful they do. Throughout this entire journey one thing is evident at Sassool, it starts and ends with family. Demonstrating his Lebanese & Southern hospitality and a desire to give back to the community, Mounir is following the ideals that his mother taught him at an early age as well as using the authentic recipes she taught him to cook. Sassool expands on the traditional Lebanese offering with a variety of contemporary Mediterranean-inspired dishes such as quinoa salad, kale salad, and the newly introduced sweet potato salad. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are well-represented among the colorful assortment of hot and cold dishes on display in the cafeteria-style offerings. However, your food is brought to your table if you are dining in. Longtime fans will be happy to know there's still tabouli, kibbeh, mjadarah, and of course the hummus and baba ghanouj. Like its North Raleigh restaurant, the Cary Sassool features an in-house oven that turns out freshly baked pita and flatbread pies with toppings ranging from spinach and feta to lahem b'ahjeen (lean ground beef mixed with parsley, tomato, onion, garlic and spices). Popular North Raleigh weekly specials such as Family Night (Tuesdays after 4pm, children 10 and under get a free kid's meal with purchase of an an adult meal) and Wine and Dine Night (Wednesdays after 4pm, half price house wine bottles and a $5 appetizer special) are also offered in Cary's Sassool.
Customers who come to Sassool feel as if they are part of the family while they enjoy healthy, delicious, fresh, quality meals. Its time you join the family... eat, drink and be merry!

A Southern Family's Tradition - In the South, cheese straws are a family tradition. There's even an old saying: "If you didn't have cheese straws at your wedding, you may not be legally married." Ritchie Hill Bakery was founded on this tradition in 2010 by brother and sister team Heath Ritchie and Beth Alm. Their secret family recipe has passed from generation to generation for over 100 years.
When the recipe was handed to Heath the requests to make them for friends were so popular that out of necessity Ritchie Hill Bakery was born. The bakery resides at the historic Old Creamery building in Concord, NC where the cheese straws are still prepared exactly the same, with the original family recipe, in small batches. Website.

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors. No one can pay to be featured on
The Beltline Buzz.. That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such. Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of
The Beltline Buzz. Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way. So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.
That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors. You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail." Yes, these are paid for. And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone. Not for any amount of money.
We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz. We look forward to delivering it.
