High Praise: Garland Restaurant Delivers in Downtown Raleigh
"It's just... So... GOOD!" ... When Ashley Christensen (celebrated chef and owner of Poole's, Beasley's, Chuck's, Joule, and the eagerly-awaited Death and Taxes and Bridge Club) says she has the biggest crush on Garland (headline lifted from recent tweet), it is time to investigate. Garland is a downtown, Raleigh pan Asian eatery that has taken Raleigh by storm. It was originally a take-out window working out of the Kings Barcade/Neptunes building. It is now in a stylish, retro space on West Martin Street; a perfect setting for a culinary adventure. Garland is open for lunch, dinner, and cocktails (note: dinner reservations are highly advisable) and prices are very reasonable. Our advice ... Put Garland on your must try list! Reservations
Penny For Your Thoughts: From the silver mirrored entry and "mod" waiting area to the " penny-floored" bathrooms, the eclectic design touches provide a sensory starter for the culinary surprises. Garland's chef Cheetie Kumar brings explosive but surprisingly well balanced fusion flavors to her Indian inspired dishes. Lunch features their amazing MOROCCAN HUMMUS as well an array of tempting meal choices. Ask your wait staff for Ashley's favorites.
Bowl'd Over: Garland's dinner menu offers a combination of small and large plates. The fan favorite, CHICKEN 65 (fried boneless chicken with fresh chilies, lime, yogurt, and cilantro) is spicy and flavorful. Other "small" must-tries include the LAURAL BRANCH GARDEN SALAD (with Toscano cheese, toasted cashews, and medjule dates) and the HOUSE MADE LAMB SAUSAGE. Large plate choices are varied and include LAMB or VEGETABLE CURRY, PORK or TOFU RICE BOWL, and LAMIAN NOODLES with GRILLED LOCAL RIBEYE. The BO SSAM (glazed pork belly with white kimchi and chili sauce) is a more classical Asian dish getting rave reviews. Top it off with a three-course, one-bite dessert flight ($5) and your adventure is complete. Menu
Garland: 14 West Martin Street (between Fayetteville & Salisbury Streets), Raleigh; Dinner: Tuesday - Thursday, 5:30pm - 10pm, Friday & Saturday, 5:30pm - 11pm; Lunch: Wednesday - Friday - 11:30am - 2:30pm; Contact: 919.833.6886, Online Reservations, Website

Bless Your Heart - Love It or List It Wants You!
North Carolina is now the new home to HGTV's hit show "Love It or List It". The show gives homeowners the opportunity to see the potential of their beloved home with newly renovations and designs or find another home of their dreams that's on the market and within their budget. Starring realtor, David Visentin and designer, Hilary Farr this popular home makeover show is now filming in the Tar Heel State. The dynamic duo of Hilary Farr and David Visentin say the move was necessary to better relate to their target audience in the US. Previously filmed in Toronto, with a large US following, the producers said while viewers enjoyed the show, there was a big disconnect with the value of homes in Toronto versus US. So for a better realistic housing market they've chosen NC! Overall, the show will employ more than 250 North Carolinians while it films in the area and will spend close to $5 million. Lost in Translation - But with the move comes other changes mainly focused on the iconic sweet Southern hospitality that North Carolinians are known for. "They're very shy about telling you exactly how they feel," says Visentin. It takes him a bit

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors. No one can pay to be featured on
The Beltline Buzz.. That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such. Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of
The Beltline Buzz. Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way. So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.
That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors. You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail." Yes, these are paid for. And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone. Not for any amount of money.
We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz. We look forward to delivering it.
